Today, IBEC\u2019s relationship with the UB and UPC researchers continues to operate under a framework agreement signed in 2008.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Vall d\u2019Hebron University Hospital Foundation \u2013 Research Institute<\/strong> (\u201cVHIR\u201d or \u201cthe Foundation\u201d) is a leading biomedical research centre in Barcelona that promotes, develops and transfers research of the Vall d\u2019Hebron University Hospital. Through international leadership and excellence in our research, we improve people\u2019s health and quality of life by means of the more than 1,000 investigators who carry out their research, and which are also supported by scientific services.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">With the aim to promote translational collaboration and train the next generation of biomedical researchers with a focus on bioengineering, <strong>IBEC and VHIR offer 2 fellowships funded by Severo Ochoa <\/strong>(Ayuda CEX2023- 001282-S<em> <\/em>funded by MICIU\/AEI \/10.13039\/501100011033) for projects co-supervised by group leaders from IBEC and from VHIR. Selected fellows will spend around 50% of the time of the fellowship at each center.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel gutena-accordion-block__panel\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel-title gutena-accordion-block__panel-title\"><div class=\"gutena-accordion-block__panel-title-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-right:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px\">PhD FELLOWSHIP CONDITIONS<\/h6>\n<div class=\"trigger-plus-minus\"><div class=\"horizontal\"><\/div><div class=\"vertical\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel-content gutena-accordion-block__panel-content\"><div class=\"gutena-accordion-block__panel-content-inner\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\"> <br>The IBEC-VHIR International PhD programme fellowships offer a 4-year predoctoral contract at IBEC with the following gross annual salary:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>19.500 \u20ac for the first two years.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>23.713 \u20ac for the 3rd year.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>24.500 \u20ac for the 4th year.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, 6.860\u20ac are also offered for mobility and Doctoral Programme enrolment fees during the 4-year period.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>2.1. <strong>General conditions<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gross salary provides full social security coverage, which includes health and accident insurance, pension and unemployment benefits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fellow will be hired by IBEC. Working conditions at IBEC also include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contract duration: 4 years, unless the candidate has previously held a predoctoral contract (if the candidate has held a predoctoral contract for more than 6 months, he\/she is not eligible)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Yearly 23 working days of paid holidays&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>9 leave days for personal matters&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parental leave (16 weeks)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leave for breastfeeding&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shorter hours for guardianship or leave to care for children and&nbsp;relatives.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flexible schedule working hours.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Induction programme to facilitate incorporation at IBEC.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support is provided to help foreigners obtain a visa and work permit, as well as settle in Barcelona.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellow will benefit from training opportunities both at IBEC and VHIR.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IBEC provides training and PhD discussions specially devoted for PhD and early postdocs such as workshops to prepare the thesis and presentation skills. IBEC also provides seminars with top names in bioengineering and nanomedicine from all over the world in order to offer the opportunity to discuss and network the developments. IBEC also offers different courses to give the opportunity to learn new skills such a leadership communication, time management, and language skills. The institute also holds an annual symposium on a different scientific theme, as well as hosting and organizing several other project-based or general scientific meetings and workshops throughout the year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>VHIR provides training and activities specifically devoted for PhD researchers\/students of the institution to support the optimal development of their scientific and professional careers. Predoctoral training is based on the criteria established by the EU&#8217;s European Competence Framework for Researchers, providing courses that cover their competencies in: working with others, doing research, managing research, and making an impact. The training is delivered by specialized professionals from the institution itself and experts in the respective fields, both nationally and internationally. In addition to specialized training, the institution also offers scientific and networking activities, which help develop the communication skills of predoctoral researchers while fostering and strengthening their connection with the institution and the broader VHIR predoctoral community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellows are encouraged to take up research placements in other centres. Thanks to these stays, young researchers benefit from transnational and multidisciplinary mobility and have the added value of enabling PhD Fellows to obtain an international PhD, a recognized distinction which significantly improves their chances of a successful career.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All fellows will commit themselves to participating in outreach and education activities for a minimum of 10 hours per year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to enhance and acknowledge the excellence of the training program developed for IBEC\u2019s PhD fellows, we issue a Doctoral Certificate of Excellence funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the Centro de Excelencia Severo Ochoa award. This certificate is awarded to those fellows who meet the quality requirements of the institute. Additionally, all candidates that received a Doctoral Certificate of Excellence will be eligible for a Doctoral Award. The awardees will receive a prize in an award ceremony at the IBEC Symposium.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the Wellbeing Programme, IBEC offers a catalogue of activities on healthy habits, wellbeing and mental health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IBEC is committed to awareness of diversity and gender equality in science and society. This follows our mission to carry out interdisciplinary research at the highest international quality level, which, by creating knowledge, help to improve health and quality of life, and generate wealth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.2. <strong>PhD Enrolment requirements<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once selected, fellows will have to enrol in a university of their choice (mainly University of Barcelona-UB; Polytechnic University of Catalonia-UPC and University Pompeu Fabra-UPF; Universitat Auton\u00f2noma de Barcelona-UAB). <strong>Neither IBEC nor VHIR grant the doctorate degree, instead, it provides the experimental experience the fellows need to complete their PhD.<\/strong> The awarding body of the PhD will be the University at which he\/she is enrolled as a doctoral student.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellows will provide an annual report from the Doctoral School confirming the positive scientific progress related to the PhD thesis carried out during the year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expected initial date is between October 1<sup>st<\/sup> 2025 and January 1<sup>st<\/sup> 2026, when a predoctoral contract will be issued, once they have been admitted on a Doctoral Programme.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">For the future enrolment in the Doctoral program, the University only accepts an official translation of educational certificates. The verification of an equivalent level of studies will be made by the university when the admission to the PhD Programme procedure starts. Should this verification not be successful, the fellowship would be withdrawn.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel gutena-accordion-block__panel\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel-title gutena-accordion-block__panel-title\"><div class=\"gutena-accordion-block__panel-title-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-right:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px\">ELIGIBILITY<\/h6>\n<div class=\"trigger-plus-minus\"><div class=\"horizontal\"><\/div><div class=\"vertical\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel-content gutena-accordion-block__panel-content\"><div class=\"gutena-accordion-block__panel-content-inner\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\"> <br>Highly qualified researchers of all nationalities willing to join a stimulating, interdisciplinary research and high-quality scientific environment are welcome to apply.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following <strong>requirements<\/strong> are common to the fellowships available:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Candidates should be ready to enter an official doctoral programme in October 2025 (under Spanish Law). By this time, they must have obtained a university degree and a master\u2019s degree; or must hold an official university qualification from a country of the European Higher Education Area with a minimum of 300 ECTS of official university studies, of which at least 60 are at master\u2019s level. Candidates who expect to be awarded with such degrees by October 2025 are eligible to apply.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Candidates are eligible for a period of 2 years following the end of the Masters (MSc) or 5 years following the end of the Bachelors (BSc) degree at the time of deadline (March 31<sup>st<\/sup>, 2025). &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Candidates must have an average final mark of BSc of at least 7\/10 (Spanish system).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Candidates must have a strong commitment to scientific research and an excellent academic record.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Candidates must have good working knowledge of English.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Candidates must not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Candidates must not have held a PhD contract exceeding twelve months in October 2025.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Candidates must not have held any fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities for the development of a PhD thesis at the time of deadline (March 31<sup>st<\/sup>, 2025). &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel gutena-accordion-block__panel\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel-title gutena-accordion-block__panel-title\"><div class=\"gutena-accordion-block__panel-title-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-right:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px\">PhD RESEARCH PROJECTS<\/h6>\n<div class=\"trigger-plus-minus\"><div class=\"horizontal\"><\/div><div class=\"vertical\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-gutena-accordion-panel-content gutena-accordion-block__panel-content\"><div class=\"gutena-accordion-block__panel-content-inner\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\"> <br>Highly qualified researchers of all nationalities willing to join a stimulating, interdisciplinary research and high-quality scieProjects will be co-supervised by one Principal Investigator (PI) at IBEC and one at VHIR.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Incompatibilities for VHIR PIs:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>VHIR PIs will not be able to present a PhD position offer if they are hosting a PhD researcher from a current VHIR institutional PhD fellowship (unless being in the last year).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>VHIR research groups may only be awarded with an institutional PhD fellowship per year. As long as they meet the requirements, PIs from the awardee groups will be able to apply for the following call.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the online application form, candidates will be asked to indicate their preference and priority of up to three PhD projects. This will serve to evaluate the knowledge and expertise of the candidate related to the research project and his\/her adequacy to the corresponding research group. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the talks with the PIs, <strong>candidates will be asked to make a ranked list of up to 3 preferred PhD research projects and their prioritisation<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>STAGE III: Interviews of final candidates<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Between June 2<\/strong><strong><sup>nd<\/sup><\/strong><strong> and 13<\/strong><strong><sup>st <\/sup><\/strong><strong>2025, online interviews<\/strong> of shortlisted candidates will be held.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interviews with the selection committee will assess the candidate\u2019s motivation and the following competencies: communication, critical and analytical thinking, team and collaborative working, commitment, proactivity and open-mindedness. All candidates will receive a guideline document to prepare the interview.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interview will also be an opportunity for the candidate to expose any personal requirements or clarify doubts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>STAGE IV: final decision and start of fellowship<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final decision will be taken in a consensus meeting composed the GLs from the selection committee and senior officers from Strategic Units and People Management Units from both VHIR and IBEC.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between June 16<sup>th<\/sup> and 20<sup>th<\/sup> 2025, the results of the call will be published, and the acceptance letters will be sent to the candidates with the highest scores.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order of evaluation score, they will be able to choose their <strong>final PhD Project<\/strong> and supervisor, taking into account that each PhD research project can only have one fellowship, so if a candidate with a higher score chooses a particular PhD research project, candidates with lower scores will have to choose another one from their list of preferred PhD projects and supervisors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Applicants who have not been successful but have received a positive evaluation will be placed on a reserve list.
