Per dur a terme aquest control, els metges acostumen a utilitzar un conjunt d&#8217;el\u00e8ctrodes capa\u00e7os d&#8217;enregistrar l&#8217;activitat el\u00e8ctrica del cor. La q\u00fcesti\u00f3\u00a0 \u00e9s: qu\u00e8 passa quan aquest senyal \u00e9s molt m\u00e9s baix, com, per exemple, quan volem escoltar el batec de petites agrupacions de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules o de grups de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules dins de teixits?<\/p>\n<p>La comunitat cient\u00edfica fa anys que est\u00e0 intentant solucionar aquest problema, ja que facilitaria el cam\u00ed pel desenvolupament i el control dels f\u00e0rmacs. El desenvolupament d&#8217;aquestes t\u00e8cniques, juntament amb l&#8217;\u00fas de derivats de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules mare pluripotents, obre la porta, no nom\u00e9s a trobar aplicacions immediates en el camp card\u00edac, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 en altres \u00e0rees de recerca crucials, com el neural.<\/p>\n<p>Ara, experts de l&#8217;Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC), en col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 amb l&#8217;Institut de Ci\u00e8ncia de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), han assolit una nova fita. Han desenvolupat una plataforma biol\u00f2gica que integra un dispositiu electr\u00f2nic org\u00e0nic anomenat &#8220;transistor org\u00e0nic d&#8217;efecte de camp de porta electrol\u00edtica&#8221; (EGOFET) al nucli. D\u2019aquesta manera, els investigadors han pogut monitorar el senyal el\u00e8ctric de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules i microteixits durant llargs per\u00edodes de temps. Aquest treball \u00e9s el resultat d&#8217;una profitosa col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 multidisciplin\u00e0ria entre un equip de dispositius electr\u00f2nics org\u00e0nics (dirigit per la doctora Marta Mas-Torrent de l&#8217;ICMAB), un equip de bioenginyeria (dirigit pel professor de la UB Gabriel Gomila, a l&#8217;IBEC) i un equip d&#8217;enginyeria tissular de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules mare (dirigit per la professora de recerca ICREA N\u00faria Montserrat, a l&#8217;IBEC), amb la col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 en desenvolupament d&#8217;instrumentaci\u00f3 del doctor Tobias Cramer, de la Universitat de Bolonya a It\u00e0lia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHa estat incre\u00efble veure com la plataforma electrofisiol\u00f2gica desenvolupada amb c\u00e8l\u00b7lules card\u00edaques sembrades es mantenia en funcionament durant diverses setmanes sense que se&#8217;n degrad\u00e9s el rendiment. Aquesta capacitat obre la porta a incomptables aplicacions en biologia i biomedicina.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Adrica Kyndiah, autora principal de l&#8217;informe i investigadora de l&#8217;IBEC.<\/p>\n<p>Els transistors impresos en substrats flexibles van ser fabricats pel grup de la doctora Marta Mas-Torrent a l&#8217;ICMAB-CSIC. Posteriorment, la superf\u00edcie de l&#8217;EGOFET i tota la plataforma es van adaptar perqu\u00e8 interactuessin amb agrupacions de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules card\u00edaques derivades de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules mare humanes pluripotents durant per\u00edodes llargs de temps (diverses setmanes). Segons els autors de l&#8217;informe, publicat a la revista <em>Biosensors and Bioelectronics<\/em>, l&#8217;avantatge principal d&#8217;utilitzar aquests EGOFET per a l&#8217;enregistrament bioelectr\u00f2nic \u00e9s triple:<\/p>\n<p>En primer lloc, els EGOFET s&#8217;elaboren amb material org\u00e0nic sobre un substrat mec\u00e0nicament flexible, s\u00f3n biocompatibles i mostren un rendiment consolidat quan es fan funcionar en un entorn fisiol\u00f2gic. En segon lloc, un transistor produeix l&#8217;ampliaci\u00f3 intr\u00ednseca del senyal sense que calguin amplificadors externs, en comparaci\u00f3 amb els el\u00e8ctrodes convencionals, i aix\u00f2 comporta un alt nivell de senyal en relaci\u00f3 amb el soroll. I, en tercer lloc, funciona a baix voltatge, de manera que evita danys cel\u00b7lulars o un est\u00edmul no desitjat en la c\u00e8l\u00b7lula.<\/p>\n<p>Els investigadors de l&#8217;IBEC no nom\u00e9s van provar el dispositiu en c\u00e8l\u00b7lules i teixits card\u00edacs sin\u00f3 que tamb\u00e9 van investigar l&#8217;efecte de dos f\u00e0rmacs coneguts que afecten el rendiment card\u00edac. Aix\u00ed, ara seria possible controlar nous compostos en els cardiomi\u00f2cits i altres c\u00e8l\u00b7lules el\u00e8ctriques derivades de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules mare pluripotents (com les neurones).
