Actualment, la major part de les ter\u00e0pies es basen en la cirurgia despr\u00e9s de la lesi\u00f3. No obstant aix\u00f2, aquestes intervencions gaudeixen d&#8217;una efici\u00e8ncia moderada a l&#8217;hora de restablir les funcions perdudes.<\/p>\n<p>Ara, un grup d&#8217;investigadors de l&#8217;Institut de\u00a0Bioingenieria\u00a0de Catalunya (IBEC) liderats per Jos\u00e9 Antonio del R\u00edo, investigador principal del Grup de\u00a0Neurobiologia\u00a0Molecular i Cel\u00b7lular de l&#8217;IBEC, i Arnau\u00a0Hervera, investigador postdoctoral del mateix grup, han desenvolupat un dispositiu \u2013<em>lab-on-a-xip<\/em>\u2013\u00a0per a estudiar i reparar lesions del sistema nervi\u00f3s combinat dues tecnologies basades en la\u00a0bioingenieria.<\/p>\n<p>Es tracta de la\u00a0microfluidica\u00a0-que utilitza sistemes que processen o manipulen quantitats petites de fluids mitjan\u00e7ant canals amb l&#8217;objectiu d&#8217;estudiar la resposta a diferents est\u00edmuls- i de la\u00a0optogen\u00e8tica\u00a0\u2013que combina la gen\u00e8tica i l&#8217;\u00f2ptica per a controlar l&#8217;activitat de les neurones-. Aquesta \u00faltima \u00e9s especialment \u00fatil en\u00a0neurobiologia\u00a0perqu\u00e8 permet modelar l&#8217;activitat cel\u00b7lular nom\u00e9s mitjan\u00e7ant canvis de llum, sense necessitat d&#8217;usar l&#8217;estimulaci\u00f3 el\u00e8ctrica, que \u00e9s m\u00e9s inespec\u00edfica i pot danyar les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules.<\/p>\n<p>Gr\u00e0cies a la combinaci\u00f3 d&#8217;ambdues els experts han descobert que el m\u00fascul envia senyals regeneratius a les neurones amb la finalitat de promoure la seva\u00a0reconnexi\u00f3\u00a0i restablir les funcions i el control de la contracci\u00f3 perdut despr\u00e9s d&#8217;una lesi\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Segons Arnau\u00a0Hervera, aquest descobriment \u201cpermet entendre millor els mecanismes subjacents a les lesions de\u00a0motoneurones\u201d, un tipus de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules encarregades de produir els est\u00edmuls que provoquen la contracci\u00f3 dels diferents grups musculars de l&#8217;organisme. En aquest sentit, l&#8217;investigador afegeix que la troballa \u201cobre una finestra perqu\u00e8 en un futur es puguin millorar els efectes de les ter\u00e0pies de rehabilitaci\u00f3 actuals\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tot aix\u00f2 es recull en un estudi realitzat amb c\u00e8l\u00b7lules de ratolins i publicat recentment en la revista especialitzada\u00a0<em>Cells<\/em>\u00a0del qual es despr\u00e8n que un augment de l&#8217;activitat muscular \u00e9s capa\u00e7 d&#8217;induir la regeneraci\u00f3\u00a0axonal, imprescindible perqu\u00e8 es restableixin les funcions perdudes despr\u00e9s d&#8217;una lesi\u00f3.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 640px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-72196-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" loop autoplay preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/ibecbarcelona.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Video4.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/ibecbarcelona.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Video4.mp4\">https:\/\/ibecbarcelona.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Video4.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>Els autors del treball, en el qual tamb\u00e9 ha participat el Grup de\u00a0Nanobioingenieria\u00a0de l&#8217;IBEC, liderat per Josep\u00a0Samitier, el director de l&#8217;Institut, subratllen la possible utilitzaci\u00f3 de la metodologia per a\u00a0modelitzar\u00a0l&#8217;estudi d&#8217;altres malalties del sistema nervi\u00f3s com l&#8217;esclerosi lateral amiotr\u00f2fica (ELA), l&#8217;origen del qual es relaciona amb la mort de\u00a0motoneurones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa plataforma que hem dissenyat ens permet posar en un mateix dispositiu dos tipus de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules diferents -les neuronals i les musculars- i modular la seva activitat mitjan\u00e7ant est\u00edmuls de llum\u201d, apunta del R\u00edo, que a m\u00e9s de ser un dels investigadors principals de l&#8217;IBEC \u00e9s catedr\u00e0tic del Departament de Biologia Cel\u00b7lular, Fisiologia i Immunologia de la Universitat de Barcelona (UB), membre de l&#8217;Institut de Neuroci\u00e8ncia de la UB (UBNeuro)\u00a0i del Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica en Red sobre Enfermedades Neurodegenerativas (CIBERNED).<\/p>\n<p>Finalment, el catedr\u00e0tic destaca que mitjan\u00e7ant l&#8217;\u00fas d&#8217;aquesta mena de plataformes es redueix en gran manera la necessitat d&#8217;experimentar amb animals, perqu\u00e8 aquest tipus d&#8217;experimentaci\u00f3 se substitueix per l\u00ednies cel\u00b7lulars a l&#8217;hora de dur a terme els experiments.
