Per\u00f2, durant la recerca, vam trobar-nos amb un fenomen totalment inesperat\u201d, explica l&#8217;autor s\u00e8nior Jeffrey Fredberg, professor de bioenginyeria i fisiologia al Departament de Salut Mediambiental de l&#8217;HSPH i coinvestigador s\u00e8nior del laboratori de Din\u00e0mica Cel\u00b7lular Integrativa i Molecular de l&#8217;HSPH.<\/p>\n<p>Bi\u00f2legs, enginyers i f\u00edsics de l&#8217;HSPH i l&#8217;IBEC van col\u00b7laborar per aportar claredat sobre el moviment cel\u00b7lular col\u00b7lectiu, que juga un paper clau en funcions com ara guariment de ferides, desenvolupament d&#8217;\u00f2rgans i creixement de tumors. Mitjan\u00e7ant una t\u00e8cnica anomenada microsc\u00f2pia d&#8217;estr\u00e8s en monocapa \u2014que ells mateixos han inventat\u2014 van mesurar les forces que afecten una \u00fanica capa de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules epitelials en moviment. Van examinar la velocitat i la direcci\u00f3 de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules aix\u00ed com la tracci\u00f3, \u00e9s a dir, com algunes c\u00e8l\u00b7lules tiren d&#8217;elles mateixes o s&#8217;empenyen i, en conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncia, forcen un moviment col\u00b7lectiu.<\/p>\n<p>Tal com esperaven, els investigadors van observar que quan se situava un obstacle al cam\u00ed d&#8217;una capa de c\u00e8l\u00b7lules en moviment d&#8217;avan\u00e7ament \u2014en aquest cas, un gel que no proporciona tracci\u00f3\u2014 les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules es mouen al voltant de l&#8217;obstacle, cenyint-se fermament als contorns del gel a mesura que van passant. Tanmateix, els investigadors tamb\u00e9 van observar una cosa sorprenent: les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules, a m\u00e9s de moure&#8217;s cap endavant, continuen intentant bellugar-se cap al gel, com si volguessin omplir l&#8217;espai buit. Els investigadors van anomenar aquest moviment \u201ckenotaxis\u201d, del grec \u201ckeno\u201d (buit) i \u201ctaxis\u201d (distribuci\u00f3), perqu\u00e8 sembla que les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules intentin omplir un buit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Aquesta nova troballa ens pot ajudar a comprendre millor la conducta de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules \u2014i avaluar f\u00e0rmacs que poden influir en aquesta conducta\u2014 en diverses malalties complexes, com c\u00e0ncer, asma, malalties cardiovasculars, alteracions del desenvolupament i glaucoma&#8221;, explica Xavier Trepat, coautor de l&#8217;article i investigador ICREA de l&#8217;Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya. &#8220;La troballa tamb\u00e9 podria ajudar en enginyeria de teixits i medicina regenerativa, perqu\u00e8 totes dues disciplines es basen en la migraci\u00f3 cel\u00b7lular&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Per exemple, en carcinomes, que representen el 90% de tots els c\u00e0ncers i impliquen c\u00e8l\u00b7lules epitelials, la nova informaci\u00f3 sobre el moviment cel\u00b7lular podria millorar el coneixement de com migren les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules cancer\u00edgenes pel cos. La investigaci\u00f3 de l&#8217;asma tamb\u00e9 podria assolir un nou impuls, perqu\u00e8 els cient\u00edfics creuen que la migraci\u00f3 de les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules epitelials malmeses als pulmons est\u00e0 implicada en l&#8217;estrenyiment de la via respirat\u00f2ria causat per la malaltia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa kenotaxis \u00e9s una propietat del col\u00b7lectiu cel\u00b7lular, no de la c\u00e8l\u00b7lula individual\u201d,<span style=\"color: #20497d;\"> <\/span> explica Jae Hun Kim, primer autor de l&#8217;estudi. \u201cEns va semblar sorprenent la manera en qu\u00e8 el col\u00b7lectiu cel\u00b7lular es pot organitzar per tirar de si mateix sistem\u00e0ticament en una direcci\u00f3 i, al mateix temps, despla\u00e7ar-se sistem\u00e0ticament en una direcci\u00f3 totalment diferent\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Jae Hun Kim, Xavier Serra-Picamal, Dhananjay T. L'estudi es publica aquesta setmana en un avan\u00e7ament de l'edici\u00f3 en l\u00ednia de Nature
