SUMMARY:Round Table - 3D Printing in healthcare
DESCRIPTION:On Thrusday 31st we will have the opportunity to learn from the Prof. Axel Guenther (University of Toronto) and from Dr. Tamer Mohamed (Aspect Biosystems Ltd.)\, the latest results obtained in 3D Printing applied to healthcare overseas and how they envision the future of this technology. Opportunities and limitations in the academia and in the industry. \nDr. Tamer Mohamed\, Chief Executive Officer – Aspect Biosystems Ltd.\nTamer Mohamed\, CEO\, Sam Wadsworth\, CSO and Elli Käpylä\, Aspect’s Manager of Academic Alliances and Business Development Manager for Europe\, she is biomedical engineer and expert scientist in materials and 3D printing and tissue models at Aspect Biosystems. Aspect Biosystems is a privately held biotechnology company operating at the leading edge of 3D bioprinting and tissue engineering. Their company is built on over 10 years of research and development and formed through a collaboration between world-class research groups in Engineering and Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Their proprietary Lab-on- a-Printer™ platform technology is enabling advances in understanding fundamental biology\, disease research\, development of novel therapeutics\, and regenerative medicine. They are focused on strategically partnering with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies\, as well as academic researchers\, to create physiologically and commercially relevant tissues. These tissues are used to advance and accelerate drug discovery and development and enable the creation of cutting-edge tissue therapies of the future. \n  \nProf. Axel Goünter\, Professor at Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering – University of Toronto\nDr. Guenther is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering\, with cross-appointment at the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He obtained his doctoral degree from ETH Zurich and conducted postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received the ETH medal (2002)\, the Ontario Early Researcher Award (2009)\, the I.W. Smith Award of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers (2010) and the Innovator of the Year Award of the University of Toronto (2013). He co-invented several bioprinting technologies\, was previously the Scientific Director of the Centre for Microfluidic Systems in Chemistry and Biology (2008-2018)\, and the Wallace G. Chalmers Chair of Engineering Design (2012-18). He currently Co-Leads the Canadian Center for Research and Applications in Fluidic Technologies (CRAFT)\, a collaborative research center between the National Research Council of Canada and the University of Toronto that focuses on device innovation related to the areas of bioprinting\, in-vitro diagnostics and organ-on-chip engineering. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The MECHANO·CONTROL consortium\, led by several research institutions across Europe\, is launching the second edition of the “Mechanobiology of Cancer” summer school\, which will take place between  September 27th –  October 1st at the Eco Resort in La Cerdanya. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe summer school aims to provide training on mechanobiology\, and specifically its application to cancer. This school will include lectures as well as practical workshops in different techniques and disciplines\, ranging from modeling to biomechanics to cancer biology. \nThere will be scientific sessions in the morning\, mixing 6 keynote speakers with short talks selected from abstract submissions by junior scientists attending the school and a poster session. In the afternoon\, there will be 2-3-hour practical workshops\, given by scientists from the MECHANO·CONTROL consortium. The course will also include leisure activities. \nThe 6 confirmed speakers who will attend the summer school are: \n\nDagmar Iber (ETH Zurich)\nHans Van Oosterwyck (KU Leuven)\nClaudia Fischbach (Director of Cornell’s Physical Sciences Oncology)\nGiorgio Scita (IFOM – The Firc Institute Of Molecular Oncology)\nMadeleine J. Oudin (Tufts University)\nMaria Celeste Aragona (University of Copenhagen)\n\nAttendance to the Summer School is open to all students\, post-docs\, and professionals interested\, although priority will be given to junior scientists (up to the post-doctoral stage). \nOrganizer: Pere Roca-Cusachs Soulere \n\nApplication deadline:9th May 2022 \nAcceptance and registration:17th June 2022

SUMMARY:Barcelona Integrative Resonance Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Barcelona Integrative Resonance\nThe symposium aims to celebrate the strong magnetic resonance momentum in Barcelona and bring together the community working with this highly versatile technique in a plethora of different applications. Also\, it will represent the kick-off meeting upon the installation in Barcelona of three new magnetic resonance instruments: a GHz NMR\, a pulsed EPR-ENDOR\, and a MRI linked to hyperpolarization. \nThe NMR and EPR instruments will be part of the Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB). The Hyperpolarization-MRI instrument is part of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and is located next to the NMR instruments in the Barcelona Science Park. The 1 GHz NMR instrument is part of a Spanish Singular Scientific and Technological Infrastructure with nodes in Barcelona\, Bilbao and Madrid. \nThe new infrastructures witness the vitality of the magnetic resonance community. We want to emphasize by this joint celebration the importance of strengthening the connection between the diverse flavors of magnetic resonance\, as well as the different scientific fields and institutions. The list of speakers includes a nearly 50%-50% balance between consolidated scientific leaders and early career scientists that represent the bright future of magnetic resonance in Catalonia\, Spain and Europe.

SUMMARY:Greening the lab: celebrating ibec's sustainable practices
DESCRIPTION:On 6th of June we will celebrate that we are the first research center in Spain to certify its laboratories as sustainable by My Green Labs. \nSince the publication of the IBEC Strategy to promote sustainability in research in 2021\, IBEC has been working to make the work in the labs and in the institute more sustainable. \nAll this work has been recently recognized by becoming the first research center in Spain to certify its laboratories as sustainable by My Green Labs. \nThe next 6th of June at 3pm\, we will celebrate this success and share our experience and best practices.  \nCome and join us at the PCB!
