\nTo register cilck here

This talk will explore the use of surface nanopatterning techniques and their functionalization with adhesive ligands to study receptor clustering and its implications for crosstalk in the adhesion and migration of single and collective cells. We aim to elucidate the mechanisms underlying integrin signaling\, cadherin-mediated cell-cell junctions\, and their interplay during migration. Examples will highlight how these approaches provide understanding of fundamental cell biology and their potential implications in tissue regeneration and cancer metastasis.  \nProf. Dr. E. Ada Cavalcanti-Adam is currently a full professor for Cellular Biomechanics at the University of Bayreuth\, Germany. Education: doctor degree in Dental Medicine from Italy\, M.Sc. degree in Biology from University of Pennsylvania (USA) and PhD in Biosciences at Heidelberg University.\nShe was Postdoctoral Fellow and later project leader at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart. Her research focuses on the mechanobiology of cell adhesion\, investigating how cells interact with their physical environment at the molecular level.  \n  \n Prof. Dr. María García-Parajo\, Institute of Photonic Science (ICFO) & Catalan Institute for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA). \nSingle molecule imaging tools to unravel  spatiotemporal compartmentalisation in living cells   \nOrganisation by compartmentalisation is a general property of natural systems that efficiently facilitates and orchestrates biological events in space and time. Super-resolution microscopy and single molecule dynamic approaches have revealed that compartmentalisation starts at the nanometre scale with molecules organising and interacting transiently with each other following modularity principles. In this talk\, I will provide an overview of recent super-resolution and single molecule dynamic approaches ideally tailored to study biological systems with exquisite spatiotemporal resolution. I will describe the combination of multicolour single particle tracking (SPT) at different labelling densities to resolve in real time multi-molecular interactions in living cells. Low density SPT conditions allows to reconstruct the mobility of individual molecules and their transient interactions\, while high density conditions provide unique information on the spatial and temporal length scales of cellular regions re-visited (or forbidden) for molecules. We find that molecular diffusion\, transient multi-molecular interactions and dynamic re-modelling of the environment play key roles regulating biological function.  \nMaria Garcia-Parajo is an ICREA Research Professor at ICFO-Institute of Photonic Sciences\, leading the Single Molecule Biophotonics group. Her research focuses on the development of advanced optical techniques to the study of biological processes at the single molecular level on living cells. She obtained her PhD in Physical Electronics in 1993 at Imperial Colleague\, UK.  Previous experience includes research at L2M-CNRS Paris (France) and University of Twente (The Netherlands). To date she has published more than 200 publications and delivered more than 250 talks at international conferences and workshops upon invitation. She coordinates several international research projects\, and is member of various international scientific advisory\, executive and editorial boards. She has received several prestigious awards\, including the Young Academy Research fellow award from the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (1998)\, National Prize in Biophysics (2017)\, Advanced ERC grant (2017) and Emmy Noether Laurate from the European Physical Society (2020). SUMMARY:GREEN LAB: REDUCING THE IMPACTS OF UNIVERSITY LABORATORIES IN THE ENVIRONMENT
DESCRIPTION:Laboratories consume three to five times more energy and resources than standard office spaces\, with significant environmental impacts from constant equipment operation and disposable plastic use. \nAgainst this background\, the project ‘Sustainable Laboratories’ (NACH-LABS)\, a joint effort of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences\, the Technical University of Darmstadt\, and IUTA e.V.\, the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR)\, the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme and the UK Consortium for Sustainability Research (UK-CSR)\, are organising the international symposium Green Labs: Reducing the Impacts of University Laboratories on the Environment. \nDue to its focus on sustainability\, the event will be held online. Therefore\, the Sustainability Committee of IBEC\, in collaboration with PCB and Nanomed Spain\, believes that organizing a satellite event to collectively follow the main event would be a great opportunity to bring together our community\, facilitating networking and sharing local experiences. \nThis event will consist of two parts. In the first part\, the official conference will be streamed. The second part will be an opportunity for local networking and experience sharing of our journey towards more sustainable research. \nWe invite you to present a 5-minute short talk on your experiences in making your labs more sustainable. You can register and send your proposals. \nRegistration here: Green Lab: Reducing the impacts of University laboratories in the environment (ibecbarcelona.eu)

SUMMARY:Open Science (Spanish)
DESCRIPTION:CIENCIA ABIERTA Y PROPIEDAD INTELECTUAL \nOpen science and intellectual property (IP) regulation share the same fundamental objective of promoting innovation for social\, scientific and economic development. However\, there may be some tension due to the fact that IP rights can be used as a basis for controlling and managing the way in which protected subject matter can be accessed. The results of scientific research may result in scholarly articles or original databases that can be protected by copyright or inventions that can be protected by patents and other forms of intellectual property. Many open access initiatives\, repositories or collaborative projects operate on the basis of clear licensing of intellectual property. \nRegistro aquí: Ciencia Abierta y Propiedad Intelectual – NANOMED Spain

SUMMARY:THE BARCELONA BLOOD-BRAIN-BARRIER (B4) SYMPOSIUM
DESCRIPTION:To fulfil the promise of applying bioengineering to improve the lives of patients\, we need to adopt a holistic approach encompassing understanding of biological/pathological mechanisms\, development of engineered systems\, and consideration of clinical needs. Hence\, the B4 symposium\, by bringing together experts studying the BBB from a biological\, engineering and medical perspective\, will greatly aid IBEC in its goal of developing bioengineering solutions to deliver therapies against brain disorders. \nBarcelona is home to numerous research groups pushing forward the knowledge frontier of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and its role in brain disorders. To foment interaction across this community\, we are organizing the Barcelona Blood-Brain-Barrier (B4) symposium to bring the BBB-community of Barcelona together to discuss advances in the field. The event will focus on the mechanisms underlying BBB physiology (e.g.\, brain endothelial specialization\, neurovascular coupling\, molecular transport)\, its role in brain disorders (neurodegeneration\, infectious diseases\, cancer)\, and nano/bioengineering strategies to deliver therapies across the BBB. \nThe first edition of this symposium will take place on May 21st-22nd\, 2024. As our inaugural keynote speaker\, we have the honour to welcome Prof. Martin Lauritzen (Copenhagen University). Prof. Lauritzen has been instrumental in our understanding of regulation of cerebral blood-flow by the neurovascular unit\, nanoparticle transport dynamics across the BBB\, and in developing in vivo imaging systems to study the brain vasculature. \n\n\n\nCheck que program and register here.
