SUMMARY:Ibec seminar. Dr Remy Chiaffarelli
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid PET/MR Imaging of Tumour Physiology: from Perfusion to Extracellular Lactate\nDr Remy Chiaffarelli\, Eberhard Karls University Tübingen \n\nTumour progression is driven by metabolic and vascular changes that shape the tumour microenvironment. We developed new hybrid PET/MRI probes to detect and quantify tumour physiology and its compartmentalization\, with a focus on extracellular lactate and perfusion. By combining responsive CEST MRI contrast agents with PET-based quantification\, these probes provide complementary functional and quantitative information for preclinical metabolic imaging. Our findings demonstrate the value of these approaches for characterising tumour heterogeneity and metabolic dynamics\, providing insights into cancer biology and supporting the development of more precise imaging biomarker.

SUMMARY:Transversal Skills: Marta Rotxés and Alexia García
DESCRIPTION:Clinical Trials: Understanding the Journey from Research to Patient Care. Clinical trials are at the heart of medical innovation\, helping to bring new treatments and technologies to patients. In this seminar\, Marta Rotxés and Alexia García\, from Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO)\, will explore the different phases of clinical trials\, the variety of trial designs used in oncology research\, and the key role of medical devices in advancing patient care. They will also discuss why effective patient communication is essential throughout the research process and share insights into the realities of conducting clinical research today \nMarta Rotxés works as a Study Coordinator at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO)\, where she is involved in clinical oncology research. She also participates in project management activities and multidisciplinary initiatives related to clinical trial development. Her work focuses on early drug development\, including Phase I clinical trials\, investigator-initiated trials\, and advanced therapies such as Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TILs) and CAR-T cell therapies.\n\nAlexia Garcia works as a Study Coordinator at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO)\, where she is involved in clinical research in breast cancer. Her work focuses on Phase II and Phase III clinical trials\, supporting the coordination and implementation of studies aimed at improving treatment options for patients. She also participates in initiatives focused on patient engagement and the development of educational resources to improve communication and access to information for patients involved in clinical research.
