Esta enfermedad rara se caracteriza por formaci\u00f3n de tumores que generan una gran cantidad de mucosidad en la cavidad peritoneal, lo que la convierte en el tipo de tumor m\u00e1s mucinoso conocido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samuel S\u00e1nchez es profesor de investigaci\u00f3n ICREA en el IBEC, donde lidera el <a href=\"https:\/\/ibecbarcelona.eu\/es\/nanodevices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">grupo de Nano-biodispositivos Inteligentes<\/a> dedicado a la investigaci\u00f3n y desarrollo de nanorrobots para su aplicaci\u00f3n en el \u00e1mbito biom\u00e9dico. En este proyecto, cuenta con la participaci\u00f3n de Meritxell Serra-Casablancas, una estudiante de doctorado enfocada en el desarrollo de nanorrobots propulsados por enzimas para su uso en el tratamiento del c\u00e1ncer, con un enfoque particular en tumores mucinosos. Meritxell ser\u00e1 la responsable del desarrollo t\u00e9cnico de los nanobots y llevar\u00e1 a cabo las demostraciones <em>in vitro<\/em> del efecto terap\u00e9utico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta investigaci\u00f3n se llevar\u00e1 a cabo en estrecha colaboraci\u00f3n con el equipo de investigaci\u00f3n del Dr. H\u00e9ctor G. Palmer, l\u00edder del grupo de C\u00e9lulas Madre y C\u00e1ncer del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Oncol\u00f3gica de Vall d&#8217;Hebron (VHIO), y tambi\u00e9n contar\u00e1 con el asesoramiento m\u00e9dico de la Dra. Elena \u00c9lez, jefa del grupo de C\u00e1ncer Colorrectal del VHIO y onc\u00f3loga m\u00e9dica del Hospital Universitario Vall d&#8217;Hebron (VHUV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Nanorobots autopropulsados para hacer llegar un f\u00e1rmaco a las c\u00e9lulas tumorales<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>El moco es una barrera defensiva que protege a las c\u00e9lulas subyacentes de pat\u00f3genos y compuestos t\u00f3xicos. Sin embargo, esta funci\u00f3n protectora tambi\u00e9n dificulta el acceso de f\u00e1rmacos cuando se administran localmente. Es por eso por lo que una administraci\u00f3n de f\u00e1rmacos transmucosa, como la propuesta en este proyecto, resultar\u00e1 m\u00e1s eficiente. Los nanobots no solo actuar\u00e1n como transportadores del f\u00e1rmaco, sino que tambi\u00e9n se autopropulsar\u00e1n hacia su objetivo, superando la barrera de moco en su camino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El desarrollo de esta nueva terapia con capacidad mucol\u00edtica y mejor eficacia en la administraci\u00f3n de f\u00e1rmacos podr\u00eda tener un impacto beneficioso no solo en el tratamiento de la pseudomixoma peritoneal (PMP), sino tambi\u00e9n en otras patolog\u00edas en las que la barrera mucosa dificulta la actividad terap\u00e9utica efectiva. Entre estas patolog\u00edas se encuentran aproximadamente un 15% de los tumores colorrectales y el 5% de los tumores de pulm\u00f3n, entre otros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, esta terapia podr\u00eda tener aplicaciones en el tratamiento de enfermedades pulmonares inflamatorias cr\u00f3nicas, como la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva cr\u00f3nica (EPOC) y la fibrosis qu\u00edstica, donde la barrera de moco tambi\u00e9n representa un desaf\u00edo para la administraci\u00f3n adecuada de los f\u00e1rmacos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este proyecto surge de la colaboraci\u00f3n establecida entre Meritxell Serra-Casablancas, del equipo de Samuel S\u00e1nchez, y un grupo de investigadores e investigadoras del VHIO, as\u00ed como cl\u00ednicos del VHUV. Esta colaboraci\u00f3n tuvo su origen durante el programa de inmersi\u00f3n cl\u00ednica para estudiantes de doctorado en el que Meritxell participa, llevado a cabo conjuntamente entre el Instituto de Bioingenier\u00eda de Catalu\u00f1a (IBEC) y el Colegio de M\u00e9dicos de Barcelona (CoMB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El objetivo de este programa de inmersi\u00f3n cl\u00ednica es conectar a doctorandos del IBEC con especialistas cl\u00ednicos, con el fin de fomentar la transferencia de resultados de la investigaci\u00f3n a la pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEl programa de mentorazgo planteado por el COMB responde a una necesidad fundamental en medicina como es el desarrollo de investigaci\u00f3n multidisciplinar que permite la colaboraci\u00f3n estrecha entre cl\u00ednicos e investigadores b\u00e1sicos para garantizar que se busca contestar preguntas con relevancia para los pacientes y que suponen una necesidad m\u00e9dica no resuelta\u201d explica la Dra. Elena \u00c9lez. \u201cEn este caso concreto, nos permiti\u00f3 redefinir un brillante proyecto inicialmente planteado para otro tipo de tumor pero que pod\u00eda responder en una importante medida a otro tipo de tumor distinto como es el pseudomixoma peritoneal.
