Aranzazu Villasante en los laboratorios del IBEC.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>El neuroblastoma, uno de los c\u00e1nceres pedi\u00e1tricos m\u00e1s comunes, se clasifica como un c\u00e1ncer del desarrollo, ya que surge antes del nacimiento, durante la formaci\u00f3n de \u00f3rganos y tejidos. Se origina a partir de c\u00e9lulas cancerosas que se desarrollan en los neuroblastos, un tipo de tejido nervioso inmaduro, y suele afectar principalmente a las gl\u00e1ndulas suprarrenales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una de las l\u00edneas de investigaci\u00f3n del grupo del Dr. Josep Samitier (<a href=\"https:\/\/ibecbarcelona.eu\/es\/nanobioengineering\">Grupo de Nanobioingenier\u00eda<\/a> del IBEC) liderada por la Dra. Ar\u00e1nzazu Villasante, es el desarrollo de modelos <em>in vitro<\/em> de neuroblastoma que permitan replicar su caracter\u00edstica vasculatura para buscar nuevos biomarcadores y dise\u00f1ar terapias efectivas contra este tipo de c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esto es relevante porque una de las caracter\u00edsticas del neuroblastoma es su elevada vascularizaci\u00f3n, que puede ser mediada por un proceso llamado transdiferenciaci\u00f3n, donde las c\u00e9lulas cancerosas se transforman en c\u00e9lulas endoteliales que forman los vasos sangu\u00edneos del tumor. Este proceso se ha asociado con la resistencia a los tratamientos y la recurrencia del c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Descubrimos que, al modificar el sustrato de la placa simulando la rigidez de las arterias y venas humanas, las c\u00e9lulas comenzaban a formar la vasculatura alternativa caracter\u00edstica del neuroblastoma que busc\u00e1bamos.<\/p>\n<cite>Dr. Aranzazu Villasante<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>La Dra.Villasante, investigadora s\u00e9nior del grupo, es la autora principal de los \u00faltimos dos estudios en esta l\u00ednea, publicados en las revistas cient\u00edficas <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/s44164-023-00064-x\"><em>in vitro models<\/em><\/a> y <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/cancers16051060\"><em>cancers<\/em><\/a>, respectivamente. Estos trabajos detallan c\u00f3mo el equipo de investigaci\u00f3n ha logrado reproducir el proceso de transdiferenciaci\u00f3n de la vasculatura del neuroblastoma en modelos fabricados <em>in vitro<\/em>. Lo han hecho en dos sistemas f\u00e1cilmente replicables: Uno de ellos es un modelo m\u00e1s simple, en 2D, utilizado para investigar posibles dianas terap\u00e9uticas; mientras que el otro es un chip microflu\u00eddico, m\u00e1s complejo, dise\u00f1ado para el cribado de f\u00e1rmacos. Adem\u00e1s, han identificado al biomarcador GB3 como una posible diana terap\u00e9utica para futuras nanoterapias contra el neuroblastoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00abCuando pones c\u00e9lulas de neuroblastoma en una placa de cultivo en 2D, no llevan a cabo el proceso de transdiferenciaci\u00f3n como lo har\u00edan en condiciones fisiol\u00f3gicas. Sin embargo, descubrimos que, al modificar el sustrato de la placa simulando la rigidez de las arterias y venas humanas, las c\u00e9lulas comenzaban a formar la vasculatura alternativa caracter\u00edstica del neuroblastoma que busc\u00e1bamos.\u00bb Explica la Dra. Villasante, investigadora del IBEC, la Universidad de Barcelona y el CIBER-BBN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este modelo sirvi\u00f3 a los investigadores para confirmar que las c\u00e9lulas tumorales expresaban el biomarcador GB3, un receptor celular implicado en la formaci\u00f3n de vasos sangu\u00edneos, la met\u00e1stasis y la resistencia a f\u00e1rmacos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Decoramos la superficie de las nanopart\u00edculas con una toxina que sabemos que se une a GB3 y observamos que estas iban directas a las c\u00e9lulas de neuroblastoma.<\/p>\n<cite>Dr. Aranzazu Villasante<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Tal como se\u00f1ala la Dra.
