Se trata de una financiaci\u00f3n otorgada por la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irp.ch\/en\/\">Fundaci\u00f3n Internacional para la Investigaci\u00f3n de la Paraplejia<\/a> (IRP), que tiene como objetivo apoyar la investigaci\u00f3n en el campo de la paraplejia en Suiza y en todo el mundo a proyectos con sede en Europa. Esta convocatoria 2024 se focaliza en proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n que busquen una cura o tratamiento para los da\u00f1os medulares o par\u00e1lisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El proyecto, que contar\u00e1 con una financiaci\u00f3n de 155.000\u20ac, se centra en la creaci\u00f3n de un dispositivo en 3D dise\u00f1ado a medida en el que se cultivar\u00e1 un organoide de m\u00e9dula espinal que posteriormente se lesionar\u00e1 experimentalmente. El objetivo del dispositivo es estudiar la evoluci\u00f3n del da\u00f1o medular, as\u00ed como evaluar la eficacia de ciertos f\u00e1rmacos para el tratamiento de lesiones medulares humanas sin necesidad de experimentaci\u00f3n con animales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Hemos dise\u00f1ado una plataforma en 3D donde hacemos crecer los organoides de m\u00e9dula espinal favoreciendo una cierta organizaci\u00f3n para que el organoide madure. Una vez lo tenemos, generamos un da\u00f1o compresivo que replica el tipo de da\u00f1o que sufren los pacientes con paraplejia.<\/p>\n<cite>Zaida \u00c1lvarez Pinto<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00abHemos dise\u00f1ado una plataforma en 3D donde hacemos crecer los organoides de m\u00e9dula espinal favoreciendo una cierta organizaci\u00f3n para que el organoide madure. Una vez lo tenemos, generamos un da\u00f1o compresivo que replica el tipo de da\u00f1o que sufren los pacientes con paraplejia.\u00bb, explica Zaida \u00c1lvarez, l\u00edder del proyecto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gracias a esta plataforma el equipo de investigaci\u00f3n podr\u00e1 estudiar c\u00f3mo se comportan las c\u00e9lulas neurales en este organoide y buscar nuevas estrategias terap\u00e9uticas para avanzar en la comprensi\u00f3n de las lesiones de m\u00e9dula espinal y mejorar el desarrollo de intervenciones terap\u00e9uticas utilizando organoides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Fundaci\u00f3n IRP se estableci\u00f3 en Ginebra (Suiza) en 1995 con la misi\u00f3n de aportar financiaci\u00f3n a la investigaci\u00f3n fundamental y cl\u00ednica en el campo de la paraplejia. Gracias al apoyo de sus donantes y socios la fundaci\u00f3n trabaja d\u00eda tras d\u00eda para recaudar fondos, seleccionar y financiar los mejores proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n con la ayuda de un Comit\u00e9 Cient\u00edfico especializado con el fin de contribuir a mejorar la vida de las personas afectadas por lesiones de la m\u00e9dula espinal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Dra. Zaida \u00c1lvarez Pinto realiz\u00f3 su tesis doctoral en biomateriales para la reparaci\u00f3n de da\u00f1os cerebrales en la UPC\/IBEC 2009-2014. Durante el periodo 2015-2019, realiz\u00f3 una estancia postdoctoral en el Simpson Querrey Institute for BioNanotechnology de la Northwestern University en Chicago. Del 2019-2021 fue Research Assistant Professor en la Facultad de Medicina Feinberg Medical School en la Northwestern University.\u00a0 Actualmente, es investigadora principal del grupo de Biomateriales para regeneraci\u00f3n Neural del IBEC y centra su investigaci\u00f3n en desentra\u00f1ar los procesos moleculares subyacentes a la regeneraci\u00f3n neuronal y utilizar este conocimiento para desarrollar nuevas estrategias utilizando biomateriales destinados a reparar los circuitos da\u00f1ados del sistema nervioso central.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Se trata de un proyecto centrado en la creaci\u00f3n de un dispositivo impreso en 3D donde se cultivar\u00e1 un organoide de m\u00e9dula espinal humana para estudiar el da\u00f1o medular y el posterior testeo de f\u00e1rmacos.
