Este proyecto se inicia con parte de los resultados derivados de la tesis doctoral de Noelia Ruiz Gonz\u00e1lez, del grupo de Samuel S\u00e1nchez, publicados recientemente en <a href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1002\/smll.202309387\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Small<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0En ella, Ruiz estudia el dise\u00f1o y desarrollo de nanorrobots propulsados por enzimas para su uso en el tratamiento de la de enfermedades articulares, como la artritis.<br><br>En ella, Noelia estudia el dise\u00f1o y desarrollo de nanorrobots propulsados por enzimas para su uso en el tratamiento de la de enfermedades articulares, como la artritis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La artritis, una condici\u00f3n inflamatoria que afecta a millones de personas en todo el mundo, se caracteriza principalmente por la osteoartritis, una enfermedad cr\u00f3nica degenerativa que se agrava con la edad y representa una carga econ\u00f3mica significativa para los sistemas de salud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una alternativa prometedora a los tratamientos actuales es la terapia con plasma rico en plaquetas (PRP). El PRP utiliza el potencial regenerativo de factores de crecimiento, prote\u00ednas presentes en la sangre que son clave en la reparaci\u00f3n de lesiones, para estimular los procesos de reparaci\u00f3n tisular, especialmente en c\u00e9lulas de cart\u00edlago y hueso. Sin embargo, es habitual que estas prote\u00ednas se degraden r\u00e1pidamente al entrar en contacto con el l\u00edquido sinovial, limitando su eficacia terap\u00e9utica y distribuci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para superar estos obst\u00e1culos, los cient\u00edficos est\u00e1n explorando sistemas avanzados de liberaci\u00f3n de f\u00e1rmacos que utilizan nanopart\u00edculas como transportadores. Aunque prometedora, la difusi\u00f3n pasiva de nanopart\u00edculas a trav\u00e9s de barreras biol\u00f3gicas viscosas, como los fluidos articulares, sigue siendo un obst\u00e1culo significativo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Este enfoque innovador posee un potencial transformador, posiblemente revolucionando la terapia para la artritis al superar las limitaciones actuales y ofrecer estrategias de tratamiento m\u00e1s efectivas y personalizadas.<\/p>\n<cite>Samuel S\u00e1nchez<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>OrthoBots se presenta como una respuesta a este problema. El proyecto busca desarrollar nanopart\u00edculas propulsadas gracias a enzimas, conocidas como nanorrobots, con el objetivo de mejorar el transporte y la distribuci\u00f3n de estos factores de crecimiento, facilitando la regeneraci\u00f3n dirigida del cart\u00edlago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEste enfoque innovador posee un potencial transformador, posiblemente revolucionando la terapia para la artritis al superar las limitaciones actuales y ofrecer estrategias de tratamiento m\u00e1s efectivas y personalizadas.\u201d, destaca Samuel S\u00e1nchez, l\u00edder del proyecto. A trav\u00e9s de estudios sistem\u00e1ticos <em>in vitro<\/em> y demostraciones de concepto <em>in vivo<\/em>, OrthoBots busca allanar el camino para la pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n de terapias para la artritis, abordando necesidades cl\u00ednicas no cubiertas y mejorando los resultados para los pacientes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para llevar a cabo el proyecto, S\u00e1nchez ha sido galardonado con una \u201cERC Proof of Concept Grant\u201d. Se trata de una prestigiosa subvenci\u00f3n que concede el Consejo Europeo de Investigaci\u00f3n (ERC, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) con el de objetivo explorar el potencial comercial y social de proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n que est\u00e1n o han sido financiados previamente por el ERC. Los y las solicitantes utilizan este tipo de financiaci\u00f3n para verificar la viabilidad practica de conceptos cient\u00edficos, explorar oportunidades de negocio o preparar solicitudes de patentes.
