Aunque t\u00e9cnicas m\u00e1s recientes han permitido ampliar el n\u00famero de mediciones simult\u00e1neas, siguen enfrentando restricciones debido a interferencias en las se\u00f1ales de detecci\u00f3n. La nueva tecnolog\u00eda desarrollada por la Universidad de Stanford y el Instituto de Bioingenier\u00eda de Catalu\u00f1a (IBEC) supera estas barreras mediante el uso de part\u00edculas de poliestireno marcadas con combinaciones \u00fanicas de is\u00f3topos estables- no radioactivos-, que pueden ser identificadas de manera precisa mediante espectrometr\u00eda de masas, una t\u00e9cnica ampliamente utilizada en investigaci\u00f3n biom\u00e9dica para analizar la composici\u00f3n qu\u00edmica de una muestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Hemos logrado ampliar enormemente la capacidad de an\u00e1lisis serol\u00f3gico, permitiendo detectar de manera simult\u00e1nea la presencia de decenas de anticuerpos distintos en centenares de muestras. Esto puede traducirse en una herramienta clave para la investigaci\u00f3n biom\u00e9dica, el desarrollo de vacunas y los estudios epidemiol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Xavier Rovira<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHemos logrado ampliar enormemente la capacidad de an\u00e1lisis serol\u00f3gico, permitiendo detectar de manera simult\u00e1nea la presencia de decenas de anticuerpos distintos en centenares de muestras. Esto puede traducirse en una herramienta clave para la investigaci\u00f3n biom\u00e9dica, el desarrollo de vacunas y los estudios epidemiol\u00f3gicos\u201d, explica Xavier Rovira Clav\u00e9, l\u00edder del estudio, investigador principal del IBEC y previamente investigador en la Universidad de Stanford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La clave de esta tecnolog\u00eda es que permite analizar muchos m\u00e1s par\u00e1metros al mismo tiempo, algo que antes no era posible. \u201cEn lugar de depender de se\u00f1ales fluorescentes, que pueden solaparse entre s\u00ed y limitan el n\u00famero de mediciones simultaneas a un m\u00e1ximo de 500, utilizamos is\u00f3topos, lo que elimina este problema permitiendo la detecci\u00f3n simult\u00e1nea de m\u00e1s de 18.000 mediciones en una sola reacci\u00f3n, y con un horizonte muy amplio de mejora\u201d, a\u00f1ade Rovira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En las pruebas realizadas, el equipo aplic\u00f3 esta metodolog\u00eda para analizar muestras serol\u00f3gicas de pacientes con COVID-19, midiendo la presencia de anticuerpos contra diversas variantes del virus SARS-CoV-2. La capacidad de evaluar simult\u00e1neamente miles de muestras con diferentes variantes v\u00edricas podr\u00eda mejorar la respuesta ante futuras pandemias y la investigaci\u00f3n sobre inmunidad adquirida. Adem\u00e1s, la versatilidad de esta t\u00e9cnica abre nuevas posibilidades en el estudio de enfermedades autoinmunes y otras patolog\u00edas. \u201cPoder analizar un gran n\u00famero de datos inmunol\u00f3gicos en paralelo nos podr\u00eda permitir identificar biomarcadores para distintos tipos de patolog\u00edas, mejorando el diagn\u00f3stico y el desarrollo de nuevas terapias\u201d, apunta Rovira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este trabajo representa un importante paso adelante en la investigaci\u00f3n biom\u00e9dica y la salud p\u00fablica, al proporcionar una herramienta m\u00e1s eficiente para el an\u00e1lisis de anticuerpos y la detecci\u00f3n de respuestas inmunol\u00f3gicas.
