Mediante el estudio de sistemas multicelulares que abarcan desde el desarrollo fisiol\u00f3gico hasta la progresi\u00f3n patol\u00f3gica, ALIVE buscar\u00e1 establecer un nuevo marco conceptual para comprender c\u00f3mo se generan y mantienen las funciones biol\u00f3gicas colectivas.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Alrededor de 100 equipos de investigaci\u00f3n de toda Europa compitieron por la ayuda cient\u00edfica m\u00e1s prestigiosa de la Fundaci\u00f3n Novo Nordisk. La financiaci\u00f3n ha sido concedida a un consorcio liderado por <strong>Amin Doostmohammadi<\/strong>, de la Niels Bohr International Academy, junto con tres socios de referencia internacional: <strong>Xavier Trepat<\/strong>, del <strong>Instituto de Bioingenier\u00eda de Catalu\u00f1a <\/strong>(IBEC) de Barcelona; <strong>Nikta Fakhri<\/strong>, del <strong>Massachusetts Institute of Technology<\/strong> (MIT); y <strong>Erwin Frey<\/strong>, de la <strong>Ludwig Maximilian University<\/strong> de M\u00fanich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cEstoy muy ilusionado por iniciar una nueva colaboraci\u00f3n con investigadores e investigadoras l\u00edderes mundiales de este consorcio, tanto en el \u00e1mbito te\u00f3rico como en el experimental\u201d<\/em>, afirma Trepat. <em>\u201cEl estudio de los flujos de informaci\u00f3n en sistemas fuera del equilibrio representa un gran reto para f\u00edsicos y bi\u00f3logos, y estoy convencido de que esta financiaci\u00f3n nos permitir\u00e1 desarrollar un marco general para comprender este problema\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>La corriente unidireccional de la vida<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>El estudio de los flujos de informaci\u00f3n en sistemas fuera del equilibrio representa un gran reto para f\u00edsicos y bi\u00f3logos, y estoy convencido de que esta financiaci\u00f3n nos permitir\u00e1 desarrollar un marco general para comprender este problema<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Xavier Trepat<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Cada c\u00e9lula de nuestro organismo est\u00e1 constantemente haciendo algo: tira, empuja, env\u00eda se\u00f1ales a sus vecinas o adopta un determinado destino celular. De alguna manera, a partir de toda esta actividad local, emergen tejidos organizados. Sin la existencia de un controlador central, se forman \u00f3rganos, cicatrizan heridas y los tumores invaden tejidos. \u00bfC\u00f3mo ocurre esto? Esa es la pregunta que ALIVE se propone responder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La idea central del proyecto es que los tejidos vivos son sistemas que procesan informaci\u00f3n. Las fuerzas que ejercen las c\u00e9lulas, las se\u00f1ales que env\u00edan y las identidades que adoptan contienen informaci\u00f3n, y esta informaci\u00f3n fluye en una direcci\u00f3n espec\u00edfica a lo largo del tiempo. Del mismo modo que un r\u00edo tiene una corriente, la din\u00e1mica de los tejidos vivos posee una direcci\u00f3n temporal preferente: las causas preceden a los efectos de manera cuantificable. Los f\u00edsicos denominan a este fen\u00f3meno la <strong>flecha del tiempo<\/strong>. ALIVE convertir\u00e1 esta flecha colectiva del tiempo en una herramienta cuantitativa para comprender y, en \u00faltima instancia, controlar el comportamiento de los tejidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cEl flujo de informaci\u00f3n dentro de los sistemas vivos, y el hecho de que este flujo tenga una direcci\u00f3n, es la idea que se encuentra en el coraz\u00f3n de nuestro enfoque\u201d,<\/em> explica Doostmohammadi. <em>\u201cSi somos capaces de medir y cartografiar ese flujo, podremos empezar a predecir cu\u00e1ndo un tejido funcionar\u00e1 con normalidad, cu\u00e1ndo fallar\u00e1 y c\u00f3mo podr\u00edamos intervenir\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Cuatro sistemas, desde esponjas marinas hasta embrioides humanos<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>El consorcio estudiar\u00e1 cuatro sistemas biol\u00f3gicos que abarcan distintas formas de vida multicelular: las <strong>esponjas marinas<\/strong>, que representan los or\u00edgenes m\u00e1s tempranos de la multicelularidad animal; los <strong>organoides intestinales<\/strong>, como modelo de renovaci\u00f3n tisular saludable; los <strong>organoides de c\u00e1ncer colorrectal<\/strong>, donde se rompe la organizaci\u00f3n colectiva; y los <strong>embrioides humanos<\/strong> derivados de c\u00e9lulas madre pluripotentes inducidas, en los que la aparici\u00f3n del plan corporal puede observarse y controlarse experimentalmente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>Si somos capaces de medir y cartografiar el <em>flujo de informaci\u00f3n dentro de los sistemas vivos<\/em>, podremos empezar a predecir cu\u00e1ndo un tejido funcionar\u00e1 con normalidad, cu\u00e1ndo fallar\u00e1 y c\u00f3mo podr\u00edamos intervenir<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amin Doostmohammadi<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>En todos ellos, el equipo combinar\u00e1 mediciones de fuerzas mec\u00e1nicas, microscop\u00eda en vivo, herramientas moleculares y nuevos marcos te\u00f3ricos procedentes de la f\u00edsica fuera del equilibrio para extraer, modelizar y, en \u00faltima instancia, dirigir los flujos de informaci\u00f3n que gobiernan la organizaci\u00f3n de los tejidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el IBEC, el grupo de <a href=\"https:\/\/ibecbarcelona.eu\/es\/research-groups\/integrative-cell-and-tissue-dynamics\/\">Din\u00e1mica Integrativa de C\u00e9lulas y Tejidos<\/a>, liderado por el profesor de investigaci\u00f3n ICREA <strong>Xavier Trepat<\/strong>, desempe\u00f1ar\u00e1 un papel fundamental en el desarrollo de las plataformas experimentales que permitir\u00e1n medir directamente los flujos de informaci\u00f3n en sistemas multicelulares. Aprovechando su reconocida experiencia internacional en mecanobiolog\u00eda, el grupo combinar\u00e1 cartografiado de fuerzas, perturbaciones optogen\u00e9ticas y avanzadas estrategias de ingenier\u00eda tisular en 3D para estudiar c\u00f3mo se transmite la informaci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s de organoides, embrioides y tejidos artificiales. Mediante la generaci\u00f3n de conjuntos de datos a gran escala y alta calidad que integren se\u00f1ales mec\u00e1nicas y bioqu\u00edmicas, el equipo trabajar\u00e1 estrechamente con los te\u00f3ricos del consorcio para poner a prueba nuevos marcos conceptuales destinados a comprender la organizaci\u00f3n de los tejidos, la invasi\u00f3n tumoral y la regeneraci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAbordar el problema de los flujos de informaci\u00f3n en sistemas multicelulares nos ayudar\u00e1 a comprender procesos fundamentales del desarrollo, la regeneraci\u00f3n y la enfermedad\u201d<\/em>, afirma Trepat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Un programa de seis a\u00f1os orientado al descubrimiento<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>ALIVE tendr\u00e1 una duraci\u00f3n de seis a\u00f1os y permitir\u00e1 incorporar un importante n\u00famero de estudiantes de doctorado e investigadores e investigadoras posdoctorales en las cuatro instituciones participantes.
