As\u00ed, inhibiendo el crecimiento del par\u00e1sito, se podr\u00eda promover la respuesta inmune contra el mismo\u201d, ha explicado el Dr. Fern\u00e1ndez-Busquets esta ma\u00f1ana.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, el grupo del Dr. Fern\u00e1ndez Busquets descubri\u00f3 que la heparina muestra afinidad de uni\u00f3n espec\u00edfica para los gl\u00f3bulos rojos infectados frente a los gl\u00f3bulos no infectados. \u201cEsto podr\u00eda permitir el desarrollo de terapias antimal\u00e1ricas espec\u00edficas para las c\u00e9lulas infectadas, basadas tambi\u00e9n en la heparina\u201d a\u00f1ade.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta ahora, la heparina no hab\u00eda progresado hacia este tipo de aplicaciones cl\u00ednicas porque presenta un fuerte actividad anticoagulante y las cantidades necesarias para el tratamiento contra la malaria podr\u00eda provocar hemorragias internas. Para solucionar este problema se investiga por tres v\u00edas diferentes:<\/p>\n<p>Por un lado se ha visto que la uni\u00f3n de nanopart\u00edculas a la heparina minimiza su actividad anicoagulante. Ahora se est\u00e1 explorando la capacidad de la heparina unida a nanopart\u00edculas para ejercer una doble actividad: como agente transportador de otros antimal\u00e1ricos (que estar\u00edan incluidos en las nanopart\u00edculas) y como f\u00e1rmaco en s\u00ed mismo.<\/p>\n<p>En segundo lugar se estudia el uso de la heparina como f\u00e1rmaco contra las fases del par\u00e1sito de la malaria que se encuentran en los mosquitos; la administraci\u00f3n directa a estos insectos eliminar\u00eda los problemas relacionados con la anticoagulaci\u00f3n y permitir\u00eda un desarrollo r\u00e1pido del compuesto.<\/p>\n<p>Finalmente, se est\u00e1n testando in vitro 19 compuestos derivados de heparina modificados qu\u00edmicamente y con una baja capacidad anticoagulante, que podr\u00edan abrir nuevas estrategias contra la malaria basadas en la estimulaci\u00f3n del sistema inmunitario para que pueda eliminar m\u00e1s eficientemente al pat\u00f3geno. De estos, 8 han mostrado una actividad antimal\u00e1rica significativa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHemos finalizado una primera fase muy interesante.
