Adem\u00e1s, la PfEMP1 es una de las prote\u00ednas responsables de que los eritrocitos infectados se agreguen entre ellos (forman rosetas), conduciendo a la formaci\u00f3n de co\u00e1gulos y contribuyendo al desenlace mortal de la malaria grave.<\/p>\n<p>En este estudio, los autores probaron inhibir la formaci\u00f3n de rosetas <em>in vitro <\/em>(es decir, en el laboratorio) mediante el uso de nanoves\u00edculas (liposomas) cubiertas con anticuerpos dirigidos contra la PfEMP1 y cargadas con un f\u00e1rmaco antimal\u00e1rico (la lumefantrina). Encontraron que dichos i<strong>nmunoliposomas son capaces de reconocer y unirse selectivamente a los eritrocitos infectados<\/strong>, <strong>inhibiendo f\u00edsicamente la formaci\u00f3n de rosetas<\/strong>.
