Estos artilugios pueden usarse para llevar medicamentos a partes espec\u00edficas del cuerpo. Los nanomotores, normalmente, emplean biomol\u00e9culas para propulsarse. Sin embargo, \u00e9stas mol\u00e9culas se degradan al entrar en contacto con el cuerpo del paciente. El uso de part\u00edculas motorizadas, biocompatibles y biodegradables que transportan medicamentos al tejido enfermo es actualmente un \u00e1rea de investigaci\u00f3n emergente en el campo de la biomedicina.<\/p>\n<p>Investigadores del <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tue.nl\/en\/research\/institutes\/institute-for-complex-molecular-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Institute for Complex Molecular Systems<\/em> <\/a>(ICMS) de la <em>Eindhoven University of Technology<\/em> (TU\/e), junto con investigadores de la <em>Soochow University<\/em>, <em>Swansea University<\/em>, y el <em>Instituto de Bioingenier\u00eda de Catalu\u00f1a<\/em> (IBEC) han desarrollado una nueva manera de sintetizar nanomotores biodegradables. Esta v\u00eda almacena en el nanomotor nanopart\u00edculas inorg\u00e1nicas capaces de ayudar en la propulsi\u00f3n. El estudio ha sido publicado en la revista <em>Nano Letters<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>Un innovador nanomotor<\/h3>\n<p>Este innovador dispositivo h\u00edbrido est\u00e1 compuesto por una estructura llamada estomatocito, tambi\u00e9n conocida como poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(D,L-lactide) (PEG\u2212PDLLA), cuyo motor se carga con di\u00f3xido de manganeso. Los estomatocitos son c\u00e9lulas en forma de cuenco con una cavidad interna hueca que, a su vez, presenta una peque\u00f1a abertura al exterior. Estudios previos han demostrado c\u00f3mo estas part\u00edculas son capaces de confinar y proteger el motor o combustible dentro de la cavidad para, posteriormente, catalizar y permitir su movimiento a trav\u00e9s de entornos biol\u00f3gicos complejos. Como prueba de concepto, los investigadores han conseguido una efectiva penetraci\u00f3n de los nanomotores h\u00edbridos en tumores, garantizando as\u00ed su funcionalidad en contextos biol\u00f3gicos as\u00ed como su potencial en aplicaciones biom\u00e9dicas.<\/p>\n<h3>Un propulsor sintetizado dentro del nanomotor<\/h3>\n<p>El enfoque novedoso de este trabajo consiste en que la propulsi\u00f3n, a partir de di\u00f3xido de manganeso, se genera en el mismo nanomotor. Cuando este compuesto inorg\u00e1nico reacciona con el per\u00f3xido de hidr\u00f3geno, genera \u201cnanoburbujas\u201d de ox\u00edgeno que, al ser expulsadas por la peque\u00f1a abertura del estomatocito, impulsan la estructura en la direcci\u00f3n opuesta. El per\u00f3xido de hidr\u00f3geno, un compuesto t\u00f3xico para las c\u00e9lulas, es com\u00fan en microambientes tumorales. Adem\u00e1s, los estomatocitos pueden ser reutilizados siempre que el combustible almacenado en la cavidad permanezca funcional\u2014. Y en caso de no estar funcionando, el combustible no se \u00abescapa\u00bb a trav\u00e9s de la abertura, por lo menos durante tres meses.<\/p>\n<p>La estructura h\u00edbrida descrita en el estudio es totalmente biocompatible y biodegradable, debido a su exterior org\u00e1nico. Adem\u00e1s, los nanomotores podr\u00edan emplearse como plataformas multimodales y sus part\u00edculas tienen potencial para ser controladas de forma remota mediante se\u00f1ales externas (campos magn\u00e9ticos o luz, por ejemplo). En otras palabras, estos nuevos compuestos h\u00edbridos combinan las mejores caracter\u00edsticas de las nano-estructuras inorg\u00e1nicas y de las org\u00e1nicas. Este estudio abre nuevos caminos en la b\u00fasqueda de nanomotores aut\u00f3nomos as\u00ed como en\u00a0 sus numerosas aplicaciones en biomedicina.<\/p>\n<h3>Colaboraci\u00f3n ICMS-IBEC<\/h3>\n<p>En el 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibecbarcelona.eu\/es\/ibec-y-tu-e-siembran-la-semilla-de-una-asociacion-prometedora\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">el IBEC y el ICMS sembraron la semilla<\/a> de lo que hasta ahora ha sido una alianza muy prometedora. Este 2020, ambas instituciones firmaron un nuevo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibecbarcelona.eu\/es\/el-ibec-firma-un-nuevo-acuerdo-con-el-icms-de-la-universidad-tecnica-de-eindhoven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">acuerdo de colaboraci\u00f3n<\/a>. Actualmente, dos l\u00edderes de grupo del IBEC, Vito Conte y Lorenzo Albertazzi, cuentan con una segunda afiliaci\u00f3n en el ICMS.
