La deficiencia resultante en SHANK3, una prote\u00edna que es importante en el sistema nervioso central (SNC), conduce a los d\u00e9ficits sociales<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> observados en PMDS. Este trabajo actual describe por primera vez el efecto de la deficiencia de SHANK3 en el desarrollo de la unidad motora. El estudio encontr\u00f3 que nuestros cuerpos requieren la prote\u00edna SHANK3 no solo para llevar a cabo procesos <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">en el SNC, sino tambi\u00e9n para ayudar a que nuestros m\u00fasculos crezcan y maduren. De hecho, la falta de SHANK3 interrumpe todos los elementos del sistema motor voluntario, incluidas las neuronas motoras, las uniones neuromusculares y los m\u00fasculos estriados. Los investigadores confirmaron que esto estaba relacion<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ado con el bajo tono muscular observado en pacientes al analizar ratones con alteraciones en el gen SHANK3 y biopsias musculares de pacientes con PMDS de diferentes edades.
