Este es su mayor potencial como transportadores de f\u00e1rmacos antimal\u00e1ricos. <\/p>\n<p>Las terapias antimalaria actuales requieren estrategias capaces de liberar f\u00e1rmacos de forma selectiva en las c\u00e9lulas infectadas de <em>Plasmodium<\/em>. En este estudio, los investigadores han explorado la utilidad de dos nanostistemas polim\u00e9ricos, AGMA1 e ISA23, como transportadores de f\u00e1rmacos antimal\u00e1ricos que atacan selectivamente al pat\u00f3geno. El primero, AGMA1, tiene tambi\u00e9n actividad antimal\u00e1rica. Cosa que ha sido demostrada in vitro por la inhibici\u00f3n en el crecimiento de <em>Plasmodium falciparum<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio muestra que ambos pol\u00edmeros se unen preferentemente a las c\u00e9lulas sangu\u00edneas infectadas por <em>Plasmodium<\/em>. Adem\u00e1s, son capaces de reconocer especies muy divergentes de par\u00e1sitos de la malaria, como<em> P. falciparum<\/em> y <em>P. yoelii<\/em>, que infectan humanos y ratones respectivamente. La administraci\u00f3n de 0,8 mg\/kg de sales de cloroquina tanto de AGMA1 como de ISA23 curaron a los ratones infectados por <em>P. yoelii<\/em>, mientras que los animales tratados con ambos f\u00e1rmacos de forma libre no sobrevivieron.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEstos pol\u00edmeros que pueden encapsular f\u00e1rmacos antimal\u00e1ricos tienen una baja toxicidad, son biodegradables y atacan de forma selectiva a los gl\u00f3bulos rojos infectados por diferentes especies de <em>Plasmodium<\/em>\u201d, explica Xavier Fern\u00e0ndez-Busquets, investigador principal del grupo de Nanomalaria de la unidad mixta IBEC\/CRESIB que lider\u00f3 el estudio. \u201cEsto significa que los pol\u00edmeros son candidatos extremadamente prometedores para desarrollar terapias antimalaria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Este potencial existente ha sido impulsado por la financiaci\u00f3n recibida de Fondazione Cariplo para desarrollar estos prototipos polim\u00e9ricos con el objetivo de dise\u00f1ar un nanovector antimal\u00e1rico preparado para entrar en los ensayos precl\u00ednicos. Este nanovector, al tratarse de una terapia dirigida, ha sido dise\u00f1ado para transportar una dosis menor de f\u00e1rmaco.
