El trabajo ha sido coliderado por Samuel S\u00e1nchez (Instituto de Bioingenier\u00eda de Catalu\u00f1a (IBEC) y Cesar de la Fuente-N\u00fa\u00f1ez (Univ. de Pensilvania, USA). La nueva tecnolog\u00eda, testada en ratones, es una valiosa herramienta para el tratamiento de infecciones bacterianas de forma controlada y localizada. En un futuro no muy lejano podr\u00eda ayudar a combatir infecciones.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Una muerte a cada 3 segundos en 2050, o, dicho de otra forma, aproximadamente 10 millones de decesos. Esta es la estimaci\u00f3n del impacto que las resistencias a antibi\u00f3ticos tendr\u00e1n en algunos a\u00f1os y teniendo en cuenta que actualmente ya son la 4\u00aa causa de muerte en los hospitales de los EUA. Esta compleja situaci\u00f3n sanitaria se debe en gran medida al amplio e inespec\u00edfico espectro de acci\u00f3n de los antibi\u00f3ticos actuales y a la falta de m\u00e9todos eficientes de administraci\u00f3n que liberen el antibi\u00f3tico solamente en el sitio de la infecci\u00f3n y no de forma sist\u00e9mica, lo que provoca la aparici\u00f3n de bacterias resistentes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"http:\/\/ibecbarcelona.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/medication-white-colorful-round-tablets-arranged-abstract-yellow-color-background.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-91804 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p style=\"font-size:17px\">Con el objetivo de aportar soluciones a este problema, un grupo de investigadores internacionales coliderados por el profesor de investigaci\u00f3n ICREA Samuel S\u00e1nchez del Instituto de Bioingenier\u00eda de Catalu\u00f1a (IBEC) y l\u00edder del grupo \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ibecbarcelona.eu\/nanodevices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nano-Bio Dispositivos Inteligentes<\/a>\u201d, y por Cesar de la Fuente-N\u00fa\u00f1ez (Universidad de Pensilvania, USA), han desarrollado micro- y nanorrobots que son capaces de llevar, de forma aut\u00f3noma,\u00a0 p\u00e9ptidos (peque\u00f1as prote\u00ednas) bactericidas al lugar de infecci\u00f3n. El trabajo se ha publicado recientemente en la prestigiosa revista <em><a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/10.1021\/acsnano.1c11013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ACS Nano<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>Movimiento aut\u00f3nomo y transporte de p\u00e9ptidos antimicrobianos\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Nuestros nanorrobots combinan navegaci\u00f3n, cat\u00e1lisis y capacidad bactericida para llevar cargas antimicrobianas a sitios de infecci\u00f3n espec\u00edficos.<\/p><cite>Xavier Arqu\u00e9, primer coautor del trabajo (IBEC)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Los micro- y nanomotores desarrollados en este trabajo se basan en s\u00edlice porosa y se impulsan de forma aut\u00f3noma por una reacci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica, la cat\u00e1lisis de la enzima ureasa, que utiliza la urea como combustible biocompatible. Estos diminutos robots se han recubierto con p\u00e9ptidos antimicrobianos que tienen una fuerte acci\u00f3n antibi\u00f3tica. Uno de ellos es un p\u00e9ptido de origen natural y el otro es un p\u00e9ptido sint\u00e9tico derivado del veneno de la avispa. Ambos ejercen su funci\u00f3n bactericida desestabilizando a la membrana celular de las bacterias, su envoltorio protector. La actividad bactericida de estos motores se ha probado en la micro y nano escalas (mil y 1 mill\u00f3n de veces menor que un mil\u00edmetro, respectivamente) y en cinco especies de bacterias cl\u00ednicamente relevantes y en todos los casos se mostr\u00f3 efectiva.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>Actividad demostrada en ratones\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-right is-style-large has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Cuatro d\u00edas despu\u00e9s del tratamiento con los nanorrobots, analizamos la cantidad de bacterias en la herida y hemos visto que se hab\u00eda reducido hasta 3 veces.<\/p><cite>Marcelo Torres, primer coautor del trabajo (Universidad de Pensilvania)<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>La clave del \u00e9xito del tratamiento ha sido el desplazamiento de los micro- y nanorrobots por toda la zona de la herida (1 cm2), lo que ha permitido llevar los p\u00e9ptidos antimicrobianos a una superficie mucho mayor. Por lo contrario, las heridas tratadas con los p\u00e9ptidos antimicrobianos libres mostraron una reducci\u00f3n en la cantidad de bacterias solamente en la zona de inoculaci\u00f3n.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta nueva herramienta de bioingenier\u00eda abre las puertas a la implementaci\u00f3n en la cl\u00ednica de micro- y nanorrobots bioactivos y aut\u00f3nomos para el tratamiento de enfermedades infecciosas. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La clau de l&#8217;\u00e8xit del tractament ha estat el despla\u00e7ament dels micro- i nanorobots per tota la zona de la ferida (1 cm\u00b2), la qual cosa ha perm\u00e8s portar els p\u00e8ptids antimicrobians a una superf\u00edcie molt major.
