Postdoctoral Researcher in microfluidics and hyperpolarized NMR at the Research Group Molecular Imaging for Precision Medicine in Barcelona

Introduction to the vacant position:

The Molecular Imaging for Precision Medicine (MIPMED) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to participate in the ongoing research projects of the group. In particular, the contract will be within the framework of project “Quantum-enhanced and AI-powered metabolic diagnostics (Q-AID)”, co-funded by the european Union.

The ideal candidate will have a background in microfluidics or a related field, with significant experience in the development of organ-on-chip devices. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and international teams.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Be familiar with state-of-the-art literature on topics related to the project.
  • Plan and conduct experiments.
  • Record, analyse and interpret data.
  • Design, fabricate, and validate microfluidic systems to create and maintain organ-on-chip models relevant to metabolic diagnostics.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration with international research groups involved in Q-AID.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to laboratory instruments and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to graduate students, interns, or junior researchers in the lab, ensuring effective project progression and knowledge transfer.
  • Managing lab inventory when needed, incl. ordering and receiving supplies and reagents.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive lab environment.
  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications.
  • Represent the lab at national and international scientific meetings.

Requirements for candidates:

Essential:

  • PhD in Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Microfluidics, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, fabrication, and application of microfluidic devices.
  • Proven track record in the development, characterization, and utilization of organ-on-chip systems for biological or biomedical research. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including experience working within multidisciplinary and international teams.
  • Communication and teamworking skills, proactivity, commitment, critical and analytical thinking
  • High level of English

Advantageous:

  • International experience
  • Knowledge on spectroscopic techniques (specifically on NMR and/or hyperpolarisation) will be a plus.
  • Demonstrated involvement in preparing successful grant proposals and external collaborations.
