Introduction to the vacant position:
The Nanobioengineering Group is seeking a highly motivated Pre-doctoral Researcher to contribute to our research in Bioengineering for Personalized Pediatric Oncology. This fellowship is part of the Generación de Conocimiento project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
The selected candidate will pursue a PhD focused on the MAGNETO project: Magnetic Hyperthermia Studies Using Bioengineered Models of Pediatric Cancer.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize experimental models and protocols to study therapeutic responses in pediatric oncology.
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the research group and external partners to advance the project’s objectives.
- Participate in regular lab meetings, progress reports, and contribute to grant writing and project dissemination efforts.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant scientific literature and emerging technologies in the field of bioengineering and cancer research.
Requirements for candidates:
Essential:
- Degree/master’s in Biomedical Engineering or Translational Research fields.
- Candidates should be ready to enter an official doctoral programme in December 2024 (under Spanish Law). By this time, they must have obtained a university degree and a master’s degree; or must hold an official university qualification from a country of the European Higher Education Area with a minimum of 300 ECTS of official university studies, of which at least 60 are at master’s level. Candidates who expect to be awarded with such degrees by October 2024 are eligible to apply.
- Candidates must have a strong commitment to scientific research and an excellent academic record.
- Candidates must have a good working knowledge of English.
- Candidates must not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree.
- Candidates must not have held a Ph.D. contract exceeding twelve months by the beginning of the fellowship (December 2024 to January 2025).
- Good skills in communication, teamwork, proactivity, characterisation, integrity, time management, critical and analytical thinking, precision, and focus.
Desirable:
- Demonstrated training in cancer research
- Experience in microfabrication techniques, device fabrication, and cleanroom work.
- Experience in tumor-on-a-chip models fabrication and set-up
- Experience in confocal microscopy and imaging
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Strong time-management skills
Advantageous:
- Knowledge in histological techniques
- Experience in culturing and maintaining pediatric cancer cell lines
