Introduction to the vacant position:

The Biomedical Signal Processing and Interpretation (BIOSPIN) Group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is looking for a Predoctoral Researcher to conduct her/his predoctoral training on innovative mobile health (mHealth) solutions, multimodal signal processing, and digital biomarkers for accessible sleep monitoring in adult and pediatric populations with different health conditions.

The aim of the project is to develop new mHealth systems integrating smartphones and wireless sensors with signal processing algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) models for unobtrusive sleep apnea detection, multi-night monitoring, positional therapy validation, and prediction of cardiovascular risk and other comorbidities.

The PhD project will be conducted in the framework of the project entitled: “Revolutionizing early sleep apnea diagnosis: new mHealth solutions for accessible sleep monitoring in adult and children populations with different health conditions (mScreenSleep)”, funded by Fundació La Marató 3Cat. This is a coordinated project in collaboration with the Sleep Unit at Vall d’Hebron Hospital.”

Coordinated project La Marató 2024 Malalties Respiratòries, Fundació La Marató 3Cat

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Setting new mHealth acquisition systems based on smartphones and wireless sensors.
  • Design and development of algorithms for multimodal biomedical signals analysis based on advanced signal processing and AI models.
  • Applications to sleep apnea detection and monitoring in different populations, including adults, children, and spinal cord injury (SCI) patients.
  • Collaboration and communication with the clinical team
  • Proof-of-concept of smart health systems.
