Introduction to the vacant position:
The Molecular Imaging for Precision Medicine Group at IBEC (Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia) is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join the team and to support the daily activities of our research laboratory. This role is strongly focused on cell culture maintenance, laboratory organization, and hands-on experimental support.The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the lab by maintaining healthy cell lines, preparing materials, and assisting researchers in experimental workflows. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys practical lab work, routine management, and supporting scientific research in a structured and reliable way.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Perform routine cell culture maintenance, including: Thawing, expansion, passaging, and cryopreservation of cell lines, monitoring cell health, confluency, and contamination and maintaining accurate records of cell stocks and usage
- Prepare and manage cell culture reagents, including media, supplements, and buffers
- Support researchers in experimental setup, including: Sample preparation, seeding cells for experiments, basic biological assays
- Carry out routine laboratory tasks, such as: Preparation of solutions and reagents, cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment, waste management and biosafety compliance
- Manage laboratory organization and inventory, including: stock control and ordering of consumables, tracking reagents etc
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of laboratory protocols (SOPs)
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of laboratory activities.
Requirements for candidates:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field
- Proven experience in a laboratory technician role or research laboratory environment.
- Experience in routine laboratory operations and support tasks
- Familiarity with standard lab equipment and procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Working proficiency in Spanish/Catalan and English.

- High level of attention to detail, especially in cell handling and lab routines
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain structured workflows
- Reliability and consistency in performing repetitive but critical tasks
- Ability to follow protocols precisely and ensure reproducibility

- Open-ended contract for scientific and technical activities, linked to the project and budget duration
- Full-time contract for one year, with the possibility of extension to two years based on performance.
