IBEC group leader Silvia Muro has been granted funding in MINECO’s ‘Explora Ciencia’ and ‘Explora Tecnología’ 2017 call.It’s the first competitive grant for Silvia and her group since she joined IBEC at the end of 2017, and one of only 97 research projects to be financed out of the 1594 applications submitted – a success rate of only 6%.
The project, ‘Controlling the differential transport of therapeutic cargoes into versus across the BBB (BBB2GATE)’ will aim to develop drug vehicles that can cross the blood-brain barrier using the natural routes that the body’s substances use to circumvent this obstruction.
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), a cutting-edge research center based in Barcelona, is looking for a Project Manager in Research. His/her role will be to oversee and manage the research projects of several research lines, liaising with other sites and institutions across Spain and Europe.

Investigadores del Instituto de Bioingenería de Catalunya (IBEC) han publicado un estudio en la revista Nature Communications que revela que la transferencia de electrones puede tener lugar mientras una proteína se aproxima a su proteína complementaria, y no solo cuando éstas ya están unidas, como se pensaba hasta ahora.Estos resultados abren la puerta a una nueva forma de considerar cómo interactúan las proteínas y puede tener implicaciones para entender mejor otros muchos procesos, como la fotosíntesis, la respiración o la desintoxicación, en los que la transferencia de electrones desempeña un papel importante.
• La biotecnológica Iproteos y el Instituto de Bioingeniería de Cataluña (IBEC), ubicados en el Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB), y el Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR) desarrollarán un innovador tratamiento para retardar, frenar e, incluso, revertir el crecimiento de los tumores sólidos, que representan más del 90% de los casos de cáncer. • Se trata de una familia de fármacos peptidomiméticos basados en un mecanismo de acción antitumoral totalmente nuevo, fruto de una larga trayectoria investigadora del grupo de Pere Roca-Cusachs del IBEC.
• El Grupo de Investigación Traslacional en Cáncer en la Infancia y la Adolescencia del VHIR evaluará in vitro e in vivo en tumores pediátricos la eficacia de los fármacos candidatos, desarrollados mediante la tecnología IPROTech de Iproteos.
