The neurobiotechnology group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is looking for a Laboratory Technician Technician to contribute to the development of novel methods for Neurobioengineering studies using microfluidics and optogenetics. The contract will be within the framework of the project “Fabrication of novel microfluidic devices and applications to monitor neurodegeneration ex vivo.

Bioimpressió de robots en 3D

El grup Smart nano-bio-devices de l’IBEC —els experts en micro i nanorobots de l’Institut— han utilitzat la bioimpressió 3D per produir «biorobots» fabricats amb elements biològics, com ara el teixit muscular.

Aquests dispositius robòtics tous d’inspiració biològica poden oferir moltes més capacitats en termes de moviment i rendiment —com poden ser la biosensibilitat en temps real, l’autoorganització, l’adaptabilitat o l’autorregeneració— que els sistemes actuals, que utilitzen únicament materials artificials.

“La robòtica amb dispositius tous d’inspiració biològica és una nova disciplina fascinant que pot ajudar-nos a superar les limitacions dels sistemes robòtics convencionals, com ara la flexibilitat, la capacitat de reacció i l’adaptabilitat”, diu Samuel Sánchez, responsable del grup a l’IBEC i professor d’investigació ICREA.

Investigadores del IBEC crean biorrobots con tejido muscular vivo generado a partir de la impresión en 3D

El grupo de Nanodispositivos inteligentes, expertos en micro y nanorrobots en el IBEC, ha conseguido crear robots híbridos en los que se ha combinado material sintético con tejido muscular vivo generado a partir de la bioimpresión 3D.

Estos dispositivos robóticos blandos, creados con tejido biológico y de tamaño milimétrico, debido a su naturaleza ofrecen muchas ventajas –en términos de movimiento y rendimiento– respecto a los sistemas actuales que utilizan únicamente materiales artificiales.

L’Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC) requereix incorporar un/-a assistant administratiu/-va per tal de donar suport administratiu i fer d’enllaç entre els diferents grups de recerca ubicats al Campus UPC Diagonal Besós i la central de l’IBEC ubicada al Parc Científic de Barcelona. Estant ubicat/-da en l’entorn universitari i internacional del Campus UPC Diagonal-Besós portarà a terme activitats multidisciplinàries de suport administratiu.

Dos vías prometedoras en la lucha contra la resistencia a los antibióticos

El grupo Infecciones bacterianas: terapias antimicrobianas del IBEC ha publicado dos artículos en los que ofrece nuevas esperanzas para la investigación urgente de antimicrobianos.

“Necesitamos antimicrobianos desesperadamente”, afirma el investigador principal del grupo, Eduard Torrents. “La resistencia a los antibióticos es una de las amenazas actuales más importantes para la salud humana, y ya se acerca el momento en que toda una serie de procedimientos rutinarios pueden volverse mucho más arriesgados».

Un investigador del IBEC gana el Premio Pioner por su tesis doctoral

Jemish Parmar, del grupo de Nanodispositivos inteligentes, ha sido galardonado con el Premio Pioner en la edición de 2018 por su tesis doctoral titulada «Micromotores para aplicaciones madioambientales».

Desde su lanzamiento en 2014, los premios Pioner reconocen a investigadores que presentan una tesis doctoral con resultados claramente orientados a la explotación industrial o comercial. Jemish, el tercer estudiante del IBEC en ganar uno de estos prestigiosos galardones, recogió ayer su premio en la ceremonia que se celebró en sala de actos de la Secretaria d’Universitats i Recerca de la Generalitat de Catalunya, junto con los otros tres seleccionados de este año –del ICFO, CTFC y IGTP–.

IBEC project to defy blood-brain barrier awarded in highly competitive call

IBEC group leader Silvia Muro has been granted funding in MINECO’s ‘Explora Ciencia’ and ‘Explora Tecnología’ 2017 call.

It’s the first competitive grant for Silvia and her group since she joined IBEC at the end of 2017, and one of only 97 research projects to be financed out of the 1594 applications submitted – a success rate of only 6%.

The project, ‘Controlling the differential transport of therapeutic cargoes into versus across the BBB (BBB2GATE)’ will aim to develop drug vehicles that can cross the blood-brain barrier using the natural routes that the body’s substances use to circumvent this obstruction.
