Many IBEC researchers benefit from its competitive position as technological counterpart of the major hospitals in Barcelona and the international arena. IBEC’s framework agreements and collaborations with these hospitals allow easy access to clinical samples and patient information.
Moreover, IBEC works on strategic agreements with several patient associations. One example is the research agreement with the “Associació Catalana de Fibrosi Quística” which supports the work of Dr. Eduard Torrents or with the “Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer” that has provided support to the work of Nuria Montserrat, also a group leader at IBEC.
With the goal to continue and enhance these clinical collaborations, several clinical colloquiums will be held throughout the year. The first colloquium was held last November 14th at IBEC and the first speaker was Dr. Josep Pous, Medical Director at Cematec-Teknon in Barcelona and gave a talk on Theoretical and practical aspects of biophysiotherapy. “The clinical practice needs to apply the possibilities of diagnosis and treatment such as those developed at IBEC (biosensors, nanobiosensors, quantum dots) to the medical practice in order to use fewer drugs and perform fewer medical interventions” said Dr. Josep Pous. During his speech he explained the different treatment methods used in Biophysiotherapy such as Multifrequency Laser Therapy, Shock Waves, Modular Electromagnetic Waves, Mechanotherapy, Growth Factors or Stem Cells.
