Introduction to the vacant position:
The Moleular Imaging for Precision Medicine (MIPMED) is looking for a laboratory technician to support the daily lab upkeep tasks and to assist the ongoing research projects of the group. The contract will be within the framework of the ERC Starting Grant project “Lifetime Metabolomics for Paediatric Liver Cancer Detection and Therapy Assessment Using Organ-on-Chip Platforms (LIFETIME)”.
The ideal candidate will have a background in biochemistry or a related field, with significant experience in managing laboratory environments. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and international teams, and a commitment to supporting scientific research.
Our group develops hyperpolarized NMR/MRSI tools to study cellular metabolism in vitro and in vivo, with particular interest in organ-on-chip platforms and microfluidic devices.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- General lab upkeep.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Provide technical support and training to researchers on the use of biochemistry equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to laboratory instruments and procedures.
- Managing lab inventory, incl. ordering and receiving supplies and reagents.
- Support the other team members with their research.
- Conduct lab tests, record results and assist in the development of experimental protocols.
- Ensure proper waste disposal and adherence to environmental health and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
- Prepare and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety manuals.
- Liaise with suppliers and service providers for equipment maintenance and procurement.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive lab environment.
- Adapt to the changing needs of the team, providing assistance and support as required.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals.
Requirements for candidates:
Essential:
- Completed or last year of BSc in Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline
- Previous experience working in a laboratory environment
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and international team environment
- Communication and teamworking skills, proactivity, commitment, critical and analytical thinking
- Adaptability and willingness to support the diverse needs of the research team
- High level of English
Advantageous:
- Laboratory management experience
- MSc in Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline
- International experience
- Knowledge on spectroscopic techniques (specifically on NMR) will be a plus.
- B2 level of Spanish
