Gabriel, who heads IBEC’s Nanoscale Bioelectrical Characterization group, is one of just seven researchers in the field of Technology and Engineering to win the prize this year. His group develops research on new Scanning Probe Microscopy techniques to measure the electric properties of biological matter – viruses, bacteria and cells – with nanoscale spatial resolution, and with this as a basis, designs novel nanoscale label-free methods for biology and materials science.
