Research Assistant at the Biosensors for Bioengineering Research Group

Introduction to the vacant position:

The Biosensors for Bioengineering Group is looking for an  Early Stage Researcher to work on the development of 3D skeletal muscle tissue integrated within microfluidic organ-on-chip devices. The contract will be within the framework of the MORFEO project (Muscle-on-a-chip approach to reproduce fibrotic processes in engineered 3D co-culture organoids for Muscular Dystrophy): whose main objective is the development of Muscle-on-chip devices to model Col6-related myopathy.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop and characterize 3D tissue co-cultures of skeletal muscle tissues from patient-derived cells.
  • Design and fabricate microfluidic devices.
  • Integrate the platform to drug testing assays.

Requirements for candidates:

Essential:

  •  Degree on any field on Biomedical Engineering or similar.
  • Experience on microfabrication techniques, will be a plus.
  • Experience on microphysiological systems and tissue engineering will be a plus.
  • Competencies and skills: Communication, Teamwork and collaboration, Commitment, Proactivity, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking.
  • High level of English.

Advantageous:

  • Experience in skeletal muscle cell culture.
  • Experience in muscular dystrophy research.
  • Experience in 3D design and printing.
