Introduction to the vacant position:
The Signal and Information Processing for Sensing Systems Group is seeking a Junior Analytical Chemist to work on the analysis of volatile biomarkers in human samples within the HARMONY-VOCS project. The position will focus on VOC measurement using ion mobility spectrometry and chemical sensor technologies, with the aim of developing robust analytical workflows for biomedical applications.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Preparation and handling of human samples before VOC analysis.
- Measurement of volatile biomarkers using ion mobility spectrometry and sensor-based platforms.
- Development, validation, and improvement of standard operating procedures.
- Implementation of calibration protocols for selected biomarkers.
- Maintenance of laboratory instruments, ensuring that equipment remains in proper working order
- Management of consumables, laboratory organization, and support for daily laboratory operations
- Participation in the design, assembly, and optimization of experimental setups.
Requirements for candidates:
Essential:
- Degree or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related areas.
- Motivation for research and interest in biomedical applications of analytical chemistry.
- Practical attitude toward laboratory work, including sample preparation, instrument operation, troubleshooting, and experimental setup development.
- Competencies and skills: communication, teamwork, commitment, proactivity, integrity, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning.
- High level of English.
Advantageous:
• Experience in chromatography, chemical sensors, or VOC analysis.
• Knowledge of chemometrics, statistics and/or design of experiments.
• Experience in programming or data analysis.

- 37,5 hrs/week Full time open-ended contract for scientific and technical activities, linked to the project and budget duration.
