Introduction to the vacant position:
The Molecular Bionics Group, led by Prof. Giuseppe Battaglia, seeks a Chemist to work on the synthesis and study of (co)-polymers and vesicles self-assembly. The position is opened to researchers with experience in polymer chemistry at different career stages. Salary will be based on education level and experience of the selected candidate.
We are a multidisciplinary group whose general objective is to design and characterize bionic units that mimic specific biological functions and introduce operations that do not exist in Nature. We apply a constructionist approach where we mimic biological complexity in design principles to produce functional units from simple building blocks and their interactions. We called this Molecular Bionics. Such an effort is multidisciplinary and involves inputs from Chemistry, Physics, and Cell and Molecular Biology.
One of our research focuses is synthesizing polymers and their assembly into vesicles, especially polymersomes, intended for nanomedicine applications. Please, visit our external web site for more information: https://www.molecularbionics.org.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
-Synthesis and characterization of copolymers via controlled polymerization methods.
-Characterization of the self-assembly of polymeric vesicles and micelles.
-Collaborate in the laboratory management.
Requirements for candidates:
Study diploma in Chemical laboratory technician, or Degree, Master or PhD in Chemical Sciences (including Chemistry, Chemical Physics/Physical Chemistry, Natural Sciences with Chemistry, Material Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Molecular Engineering, Polymer Science).
Experience in working at the life science interface
Experience in polymer synthesis.
Experience in polymeric vesicles assembly and characterization is not essential but will be considered advantageous.
Competencies and skills: Communication, Teamwork, Proactivity, Commitment, Collegiality, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking.
High English proficiency.
