Today, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) held a matchmaking workshop. The event brought together leading researchers from both centres to encourage the formation of new connections and promote scientific dialogue.

Today, Monday 15th of September, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) joined forces to organise a matchmaking workshop at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). The initiative brought together leading researchers from both centres to foster new connections and scientific dialogue.
The programme featured presentations from directors Josep Samitier (IBEC) and James Sharpe (EMBL Barcelona), alongside scientists from both institutions working on topics ranging from nanobioengineering and multicellular systems biology to mechanobiology and disease modelling. A special highlight was the contribution of guest speaker Zev Gartner from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), whose talk added an international perspective to the discussions.
The workshop provided an open platform to exchange ideas and identify common ground. The goal is to stimulate discussions, interactions and reveal possible synergies, paving the way for collaborative research in the growing field of engineered multicellular systems.
This workshop is part of the long-standing collaboration between IBEC and EMBL, which includes the biennial conference EMBL- IBEC: Engineering multicellular systems. With this latest initiative, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to advancing knowledge and contributing to global debates on the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly expanding field.
