En els teixits vius també es produeix fracking

$IBEC_fracking tejidos web$ En un article que es publica avui en la revista Nature Materials, investigadors de l’Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC) y de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) han descobert el fracking cel·lular.

El descobriment del fracking en teixits vius obre la porta a noves aplicacions biotecnològiques. Segons Xavier Trepat, investigador principal del grup de Dinàmica Integrativa de Cèl·lules i Teixits de l’IBEC, professor investigador ICREA i professor associat en la UB que ha liderat la recerca, “una d’elles seria l’alliberament selectiu de fàrmacs. Es podria utilitzar aquesta tècnica per causar petites fractures reversibles en teixits de difícil accés, i utilitzar aquestes fractures per subministrar fàrmacs de forma controlada”.

ICREA Academia Award for IBEC group leader

Gabriel Gomila, IBEC group leader and Associate Professor at the UB, has received an ICREA Academia Prize 2014 for excellence in research and capacity for leadership.

Bestowed annually by the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA) to encourage university professionals with an outstanding research career to stay in the Catalan university system, this year’s list of 30 winners is made up of 10 researchers from the UB, 8 from the UAB, 6 from the UPC, 3 from the UPF, 2 from Universitat de Girona and one from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili.

Josep Samitier elected new president of ACER

Last week, IBEC Director Josep Samitier was named new president of the Associació Catalana d’Entitats de Recerca (ACER).

Josep takes the reins from IFCO director Lluís Torner, who has held the position since 2009. The association’s first President was the Hon. Mr. Andreu Mas-Colell. The other members of the Director’s Board are ICAC’s Joan Gómez Pallarès (Secretary), Ramon Gomis (IDIBAPS), Jordi Galí (CREI) and Josep M. Monfort (IRTA) as members.

La científica dels “mini-ronyons” s’uneix al IBEC amb una subvenció ERC

Una nova investigadora principal porta al IBEC una de les subvencions més prestigioses, una ERC Starting Grant, per continuar la seva recerca en regeneració de ronyó

Núria Montserrat (Barcelona, 1978) és una de les vuit investigadores joves a Catalunya en haver rebut la prestigiosa Starting Grant del Consell Europeu de Recerca (de l’anglès ERC) al 2014. La Dra. Montserrat, que aquest mes comença com a Investigadora Principal al Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC), estudiarà les maneres de generar cèl·lules i recursos moleculars amb potencial clínic per al tractament de malalties del ronyó.

Investigadors del IBEC desvetllen a un article de Nature Communications alguns mecanismes sorprenents que condueixen a tancar el forat epitelial en l’absència de capes subjacents

En col•laboració amb els seus companys del Mechanobiology Institut a Singapur, els investigadors del IBEC han demostrar que una espècie de “estira i arronsa” té lloc després del dany de la nostra pell o altres capes epitelials, particularment en aquells casos en els que el teixit es trobi crònica i profundament danyat.

Un nou pas cap als fàrmacs controlats per llum

Investigadors de l’IBEC i de l’IRB descobreixen més opcions potencials cap a les teràpies foto-commutables al refutar la limitació del disseny

L’any passat, un grup de científics de l’Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC), de l’Institut de Recerca Biomèdica (IRB) i de la Universitat de Barcelona (UB) van anunciar que havien aconseguit molècules foto commutables, o regulades per llum, per controlar interaccions proteïna-proteïna -interaccions clau en els processos biològics i, per tant, dianes terapèutiques altament prometedores- de manera remota i no invasiva.
