Coordinated by the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia, the Spanish Nanomedicine Platform, NANOMED Spain, has obtained the renewal of the grant corresponding to the ‘Technology and Innovation Platforms’ call for the period 2025-2026, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

After two decades of promoting research, innovation, and collaboration in nanomedicine — a field characterised by transformative potential and the convergence of multiple disciplines since its inception — the Spanish Nanomedicine Platform, NANOMED Spain, has obtained renewal of the grant for the ‘Technology and Innovation Platforms’ call for the period 2025–2026.
This renewal recognises the platform’s achievements and will enable it to continue strengthening its mission of promoting nanomedicine as a strategic area in Spain, fostering collaboration between the academic, business, healthcare, and public administration sectors.
Established in 2005, NANOMED Spain serves as a meeting and coordination space for the entire community dedicated to researching, developing and applying nanotechnology-based solutions for health. Coordinated by the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the platform accelerates the transition from basic research to clinical practice and the market, thereby improving people’s health and the sector’s competitiveness.
The renewed funding will consolidate and expand key activities such as supporting collaborative projects, organising conferences and thematic working groups, promoting participation in national and international R&D&I programmes and communicating the value of nanomedicine to the public.
Its recent work includes efforts to increase the presence of Spanish entities in European consortia, promote the sustainable development of biomedical research and facilitate knowledge transfer to industry and the healthcare system.
In collaboration with the European Nanomedicine Platform, NANOMED Spain recently brought the entire European community together in Barcelona for the Nanomed Europe conference — the leading event in Europe for nanomedicine and advanced health technologies. This event has consolidated Spain’s leadership in this field and promoted new opportunities for collaboration, funding and knowledge transfer.
The NANOMED Spain coordination team comprises Josep Samitier (Scientific Coordinator), Teresa Sanchis (Executive Coordinator), Cristina Arimany (Project Manager) and Bia Moreno (Communications Officer).
