The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is looking for Postdoctoral candidates to apply for the 2016 call of the The Programme in Bioengineering Excellence Scientific Training (BEST) that aims to attract experienced international researchers in the areas of Nanomedicine, Cell Engineering and ICT for Health, the three research flagships at IBEC. The BEST Postdoctoral Programme is a postdoctoral fellowship sheme part funded by the European Comission under Horizon 2020’s Marie Curie Sklodowska-Curie Actions COFUND scheme and the Severo Ochoa programme of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Competitiveness.

El director de l’IBEC, Josep Samitier, va visitar Perú la setmana passada com a part d’una delegació de representants Severo Ochoa i centres de recerca María de Maeztu a Espanya.La visita a Lima, organitzada pel MINECO, que atorga els dos tipus de premis a l’excel·lència, tenia l’objectiu de reunir a les principals institucions espanyoles amb les de l’Aliança del Pacífic – Xile, Colòmbia, Mèxic i Perú.
Cadascun dels vuit centres espanyols va presentar les seves recerques i estratègies internacionals, i va tenir l’oportunitat d’escoltar les intervencions dels centres de l’Aliança del Pacífic, així com l’oportunitat d’identificar sinergies potencials.

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is looking for a Head of Tech Transfer Office whose mission will be to facilitate the transfer of inventions from IBEC’s Research Groups to the market for the benefit of society on a local, national and global basis, being aligned with and boosting the IBEC’s Research Programme 2015-2018. The successful candidate will run a team of two people and the Unit will report to IBEC’s Managing Director.
Els dos documents recents d’Eduard Torrents i Antonio Juárez sobre com els bacteris poden causar infeccions cròniques i nous marcadors de virulència bacteriana en E. coli han aconseguit una certa cobertura mediàtica aquesta setmana.

Investigadors de l’Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC), en col·laboració amb l’Hospital General Universitari Gregorio Marañón i dos grups dels EUA han creat, per primera vegada, empelts de cor a partir de cèl·lules mare pluripotents humanes en un període inferior a un mes.L’estudi, publicat recentment en la revista Biomaterials, descriu com els investigadors han descel·lularitzat cors humans qualificats com “no aptes per al trasplantament” per l’Organització Nacional de Trasplantaments, deixant la matriu extracel·lular intacta i lliure de cèl·lules, i a continuació, l’han repoblat amb cèl·lules cardíaques obtingudes a partir de tècniques d’edició del genoma en cèl·lules mares pluripotents humanes (hPSCs) (cèl·lules no diferenciades, a partir de les quals es poden desenvolupar altres tipus cel·lulars). Les cèl·lules mare pluripotents són crucials per a aquest procés, ja que el cos no és capaç de generar noves cèl·lules cardíaques després d’un atac al cor o un altre tipus de dany cardíac.
