Research Assistant at the Nanoprobes and Nanoswitches Research Group

Introduction to the vacant position

The Nanoprobes and Nanoswitches Group is looking for a Research Assistant to join an international and dynamic lab on a Neuroscience research project using fiber photometry in freely-moving mice. The contract will be within the framework of a national project aimed at studying how antidepressant treatment alters brain neuromodulatory signals.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conduct fiber photometry experiments (includes animal surgery for AAV delivery and animal behavior)
  • Simultaneous recordings of brain signaling molecules via fluorescent biosensors
  • Histological analysis of brain tissue (IHC and smFISH)
  • Data analysis and interpretation (Matlab, python, etc.)
  • Dissemination of results (conferences, publications, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Essential:

  • Degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
  • Passion for Neuroscience research with a focus on psychiatric and/or neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Research integrity, critical thinking and problem-solving attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Fluency in English

Desirable:

  • Accreditation to perform experiments in laboratory mice (FELASA or similar)
  • Experience with mouse behavior, surgeries, and brain histology
  • Coding experience (Matlab/python)
