The Group of Pau Gorostiza at IBEC participates in the “Emerging Cluster of the Human Brain! (CECH) RIS3CAT Initiative, in which research institutes and industry work together to achieve an integrative and multi-level understanding of the human brain.
The human brain is the subject of massive research efforts across the globe that are searching for understanding of how this complex organ works as well as exploring new treatments that can help patients overcome neurodegenerative disorders or brain injuries such as stroke.
Researchers realize that multi-disciplinarity efforts are the key to unlocking the brain´s secrets as well as improving healthcare.
IBEC´s research group led by Pau Gorostiza participates in the “Emerging Cluster of the Human Brain (CECH) RIS3CAT Initiative, coordinated by the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF). The initiative is promoted by the Government of Catalonia within the framework of the research and innovation strategy for smart specialization on Catalonia (RIS3CAT) and co.financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER). The partners will collaborate with research institutes and industry to achieve an integrative and multi-level understanding of the human brain. The synergies created within this cluster promote the creation and integration of innovative ideas to provide solutions to current challenges in the field of neuroscience. The solutions to these challenges are framed in 5 cutting-edge projects, each working to develop and transfer and innovative solution to our society.
Nanoprobes and Nanoswitches Research Group led by ICREA Professor Pau Gorostiza at IBEC, focuses on developing nanoscale tools to study biological systems. These tools include instrumentation based on proximity probes, such as electrochemical tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy and single force spectroscopy, that researchers apply to investigate electron transfer in individual redox proteins, and other biophysical and biochemical interactions.
The Emerging Cluster of the Brain (CECH), is co-financed by the European Regional Development Funds of the European Union within the framework of the FEDER Operational Program of Catlonia 2014-2020, with a grant of with € 1.527.637,88
