El projecte d’Elisabeth Engel al costat del CIBER-BBN i IDIBELL sobre regeneració del teixit nerviós després d’una lesió cerebral és un dels punts clau de la Novena Conferència Anual del CIBER-BNN que se celebra a València aquesta setmana.
En un article publicat avui en la revista Nature Cell Biology, Pere Roca-Cusachs, investigador principal júnior de l’Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC) i professor agregat de la Universitat de Barcelona (UB), juntament els seus col·laboradors de la Universitat de Columbia i l’Institut de Mecanobiologia de Singapur, revelen la funció potencial d’una proteïna del citosquelet cel·lular com a repressora del càncer.La capacitat de les cèl·lules de detectar la rigidesa de la matriu extracel·lular -un conjunt de molècules que proporcionen suport estructural i bioquímic- afecta la seva activitat en el desenvolupament, en la cicatrització de ferides i en altres processos essencials.

The Nanobioengineering group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) , coordinated by Prof. Josep Samitier, is looking for a Postdoctoral position to participate iin organ chip Technology projects that can mimic various human internal organs or systems. The main activities of the group involve the surface functionalization of materials integrated with microfluidics systems for the study of biomolecule and cell interactions to develop Organ on Chip or for the development of new biosensors that will be integrated in lab-on-a-chip devices. The goal is to fabricate microsystems containing living cells that recapitulate tissue and organ level functions in vitro and new portable diagnosis devices that can be used as Point-of-Care systems.

El responsable de grup de l’IBEC Xavier Trepat ha sigut entrevistat al programa de ciència Lab 24 del canal 24 h de RTVE el dissabte a les 22:00 h, explicant perquè és tan important que entendrem el moviment cel·lular i les forces que actuen en les nostres cèl·lules.
In some research conducted with his colleagues at the University of California San Diego, IBEC senior researcher Jordi Fonollosa has shed some light on the mechanisms behind how we memorize sequences – as well as how failures in these mechanisms can provide insight into neurological disorders.Previous behavioral experiments suggest that humans and some animals learn and recall sequences in smaller segments.
Pau Gorostiza, el responsable del grup de Nanosondes i Nanoconmitadors de l’IBEC i professor investigador ICREA, ha sigut un dels nou beneficiaris d’una subvenció prova de concepte ERC en participar en l’European Business Angel Network (EBAN) Winter University aquest cap de setmana a Copenhaguen.El Pau va presentar el seu projecte, THERALIGHT: Therapeutic Applications of Light-Regulated Drugs, a inversors d’arreu del món durant l’esdeveniment, al que han assistit juntament a altres vuit guardonats especialment seleccionats per ERC. Junts composen quasi la meitat de les 20 start-ups europees com l’esperança de cridar l’atenció d’un inversor interessat en explorar el potencial d’innovació de les seves troballes.
El País ha publicat una vídeo-entrevista amb Samuel Sánchez a la secció “Ciència en Espanyol” amb imatges dels seus nanorobots, que es poden veure navegant a través de líquid utilitzant bombolles d’oxigen com a propulsió.
