Els nanovectors podrien millorar l’administració combinada de fàrmacs contra la malària

Nanovector_IBECSegons indica l’estudi, l’estratègia té, a més, l’avantatge de reconèixer al gametocist, la fase transmissible del paràsit. Encapsular dos fàrmacs amb propietats diferents en nanovesícules envoltades per anticossos millora notablement la seva especificitat i eficàcia, segons un estudi liderat per Xavier Fernández-Busquets, director de la unitat mixta de Nanomalària de l’Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC) i l’Institut de Salut Global de Barcelona (ISGlobal), centre impulsat per ”la Caixa”.

La combinació de dos fàrmacs que difereixen en el seu mecanisme d’acció és la base de les teràpies més reeixides avui dia per tractar la malària. Tot i això, la diferència en propietats fisicoquímiques dels fàrmacs (solubilitat, vida mitjana, etc.) afecta moltes vegades a l’eficàcia del tractament.

Embryologist at the Bioengineering in Reproductive Health Research Group

The Bioengineering in Reproductive Health Group group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) offers a Laboratory Technician position for an experienced embryologist to develop a project in collaboration with the industry.

The project involves testing the effects of different culture media reagents on mouse and human embryos in culture.

Our laboratory is a multidisciplinary environment where biologists, biophysicists, clinicians and business developers synergize to create a unique environment shaped by science and entrepreneurship. Due to the high translational component of our research, we have established collaboration contracts with the pharma industry, hospitals and venture capital to bring our technology to the clinics and the market.

In our lab we use bioengineering methods to create 3D environments that support embryonic development outside of the mother uterus. Our systems are accessible to imaging tools which allow us to interrogate the genetics, metabolomics and mechanics of the embryo in a high throughput manner. Using our systems we are capable to (i) improve embryo culture conditions and (ii) diagnose embryos with improved implantation potential.

Bioenginyeria per la salut; realitat virtual per a la recuperació després de l’ictus

El grup de SPECS, juntament amb el servei de medicina física i rehabilitació de l’hospital de Sant Joan de Barcelona explica a l’informatiu del Punt Avui televisió, el seu estudi en realitat virtual per a pacients que han patit un ictus. L’estudi es va iniciar al 2014 i es tracta d’un reforç del tractament bàsic de rehabilitació. En aquest cas, s’ha fet un estudi amb 18 pacients i s’ha observat una clara millora al cap de dos mesos gràcies a aquest sistema.
