The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia and the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital have held a joint conference to strengthen collaboration in bioengineering and translational medicine. The event, held this morning at the IBEC, highlighted innovative projects, presented a joint PhD programme and encouraged the exchange of ideas between researchers from both institutions.
A synergy event was held today between the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) Barcelona Children’s Hospital, a highly specialised centre for the treatment of children and pregnant women. The event aims to foster collaboration between the two institutions to advance research in bioengineering and translational medicine. It is another of IBEC’s efforts to promote clinical collaborations.
The day began with an institutional welcome from Joan Comella, director of the SJD, and Josep Samitier, director of IBEC, who highlighted the importance of joining forces to develop innovative health solutions.
During the event, success stories were presented, ranging from new tools and physiological models to evaluate gene-editing-based therapies, to advances in the study of neuronal circuits or the impact of the expression of specific proteins in neuroblastoma. In addition, researchers from both institutions presented areas of work including bio-inspired materials, biosensors, medical microenvironments, biomaterials and paediatric neurometabolic disorders.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the new joint PhD programme, which aims to enhance interdisciplinary training and promote collaborative projects in the biomedical field.
The event also included a networking session where participants exchanged ideas and explored synergies for future projects. The event reinforces IBEC and Sant Joan de Déu’s commitment to translational research and its impact on improving health.
