IBEC showcases its leadership in biomedical innovation at MWC26 with three disruptive projects

Last week, Barcelona played host to MWC26, the world’s premier technology and connectivity event. The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia was in attendance, showcasing some of its spin-offs and state-of-the-art biomedical technologies, including: Nanobots Therapeutics, Lumiris Spectral Solutions, and Drug4Sight.

LUMIRIS, an IBEC spin-off, wins the Digital Entrepreneur Award in the Revelation category

The 7th edition of the Premis Emprenedors Digitals (Digital Entrepreneur Awards), organised by the Catalunya Ràdio programme, took place on Wednesday 18 June at the Antigua Fábrica Damm in Barcelona. The award recognises companies that have demonstrated exceptional growth and innovation in their field.

IBEC spin-off Nanobots Therapeutics receives IMPACTO grant from the Spanish Association Against Cancer

IBEC spin-off Nanobots Therapeutics has been selected in the AECC’s 2024 call for IMPACTO grants. This is an initiative of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) aimed at technology-based micro-enterprises and SMEs to accelerate the arrival of new treatments in the clinic. The grants were awarded in Barcelona today.

LUMIRIS, the IBEC spin-off that has raised €6 million to transform assisted reproduction

This spin-off from the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia has developed a non-invasive technology that analyses the metabolism of human embryos to select the most suitable ones for implantation. This innovation promises to significantly reduce the time and number of treatment cycles required for in vitro fertilisation. The success of LUMIRIS’ technology has led to a new round of investment of €1.5 million, bringing the total to €6 million since the company was founded in 2023.

IBEC and SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital strengthen their collaboration with a day of translational innovation

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia and the Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital have held a joint conference to strengthen collaboration in bioengineering and translational medicine. The event, held this morning at the IBEC, highlighted innovative projects, presented a joint PhD programme and encouraged the exchange of ideas between researchers from both institutions.

IBEC engages in two public-private partnerships for biomedical breakthroughs

IBEC and Vitala, a spin-off founded by IBEC researchers, are set to participate in three public-private partnership projects, with a combined investment nearing €4 million. These initiatives, backed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the State Research Agency, aim to advance remote health monitoring, create an oral drug for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and enhance 13C magnetic resonance imaging for therapeutic research. Leveraging cutting-edge technological approaches, these endeavors aspire to make a positive impact on the fields of medicine and biomedical research.
