Introduction to the vacant position:
The Molecular and Cellular Neurobiotechnology Group led by Prof. José A. del Río is looking for an Early Stage Researcher (PhD student) to develop his/her PhD thesis project on the development of the study of the natural roles of the Cellular Prion Protein (PrPC) and the associated GPR133 protein in the Central Nervous System during development and in the adult. The contract will be within the framework of the research project PID2021-123714OB-I00, funded by MICINN. To do this, the student will learn and use various techniques such as neuronal culture, biochemical techniques, stem cell cultures (IPSc-derived), brain organoid culture, experimentation with transgenic mouse models, lab-on-chip devices and in vitro optogenetics. The student will be integrated into a translational team with extensive experience in training researchers at the postdoctoral, predoctoral and postgraduate level. The research group, located at IBEC, is in close contact with National and International teams belonging to Ciberned (Carlos III Health Institute) and the Institute of Neurosciences of the UB. For this reason, the student will have the possibility of an interdisciplinary scientific-technological training and will be introduced to the habits of scientific collaboration, having the opportunity to train in Neurobiology, Neurobiotechnology and Cellular and Molecular Biology.
The successful candidate will develop research involving:
- Learn and develop cell primary, stem cells and organoid cultures
- Develop histological and biochemical analysis of cell cultures and tissue sections
- Analyse functional data from Calcium imaging in vitro with ad hoc developed software
- Deep phenotypical and functional characterization of transgenic mice
Requirements for candidates:
Essential:
- Degree and Master on any field on Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine or similar
- Competencies and skills: Communication, Teamwork and collaboration, Commitment, Proactivity, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking.
- Good level of English
Advantageous:
- Previous experience in Histology (e.g., immunocytochemistry) and/or cell culture techniques will be a plus
- Previous experience in Neurobiology research in laboratories will be a plus
