IBEC and Antoni Muntadas featured in the ‘Invisible Animals’ exhibition at the Natural Science Museum of Barcelona
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) attended the opening of the exhibition, which highlights extinct fauna that remains present in the collective imagination. The exhibition includes a section dedicated to the Tasmanian tiger featuring a piece by Antoni Muntadas, on which IBEC collaborated with Benedetta Bolognesi, a principal investigator at the institute.
The “Radical Science” programme comes to an end: an alliance between science, art and humanity
On 18 June, the CCCB hosted the closing ceremony of the programme, which offered an intense schedule of debates, artistic activities and meetings open to the public over the course of five months. These events aimed to explore how science will transform the world in the coming decades.
HeLa et al. is touring international film and art festivals
HeLa et al. is an audiovisual work developed by Tess Marschner during her artistic residency at IBEC between 2023 and 2024. It is currently touring international film and contemporary art festivals. This collaboration has enriched the way IBEC communicates science, helping the institute’s research to cross borders.

7th edition of the ‘Mad for Bioengineering’ course successfully completed
For the seventh consecutive year, IBEC, with the support of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, has successfully run its ‘Mad for Bioengineering’ course. Aimed at first-year students interested in STEM careers, the programme offers a unique immersion into the world of bioengineering, tackling health problems from a multidisciplinary perspective. The closing ceremony, attended by the students and their families, focused on the presentation of the final projects and the awarding of diplomas.
IBEC opens its doors to students for the summer
As part of its commitment to promoting scientific careers, every summer IBEC welcomes students who want to enter the world of research and experience first-hand the work carried out in its laboratories. This year, 14 students spent time in 10 IBEC laboratories through programmes such as Youth and Science, Mad for Bioengineering and Batx2Lab, among others.
