Students and artists explore the medicine of the future alongside IBEC as part of the CCCB’s ALIA project

The Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia took part in the 2025–2026 edition of the CCCB’s ALIA educational programme. This initiative brought around 170 secondary school students together with researchers and artists to explore the challenges facing future medicine through the lenses of bioengineering, bioethics, and artistic creation. The programme culminated in a closing ceremony held on 5 May.

IBEC launches the exhibition ‘Open Dialogues’ with three co-creation projects at the intersection of art and science

On 13 May, the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia opened an exhibition featuring three collaborative works created through the first edition of “Open Dialogues”, a programme that brings together artists and IBEC researchers. Addressing issues such as gender bias in healthcare, the sensory translation of cellular processes and the parallels between artistic and scientific practices based on the olfactory experience, the pieces were created through a dialogue between art and science.

IBEC successfully holds Hackathon for its new co-creation programme, ‘Open Dialogues’

Yesterday, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) brought together around twenty artists and scientists for a co-creation hackathon as part of its new ‘Open Dialogues’ initiative. Following the event, two pairs of artists and scientists were selected to collaborate on developing two projects based on IBEC research over the next five months.

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) attended the opening of the exhibition, which highlights extinct fauna that remains present in the collective imagination. The exhibition includes a section dedicated to the Tasmanian tiger featuring a piece by Antoni Muntadas, on which IBEC collaborated with Benedetta Bolognesi, a principal investigator at the institute.

The “Radical Science” programme comes to an end: an alliance between science, art and humanity

On 18 June, the CCCB hosted the closing ceremony of the programme, which offered an intense schedule of debates, artistic activities and meetings open to the public over the course of five months. These events aimed to explore how science will transform the world in the coming decades.

IBEC teams up with CCCB for ‘Radical Science’ cultural project on 21st century science

IBEC is one of four Catalan research centres collaborating with the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) on the ‘Radical Science’ project. This cultural project, which will be launched on 20 January 2025, aims to explore how scientific research is changing the world today. Renowned researchers and artists invite us to reflect on scientific advances in biotechnology, quantum physics and the exploration of the universe.

IBEC’s transdisciplinary projects at the S+T+ARTS Symposium on Art, Science and Technology

The S+T+ARTS Symposium: Exploring the intersections of Arts, Science, Technology and Society as catalysts for change took place on 29-30 October. There, Teresa Sanchis, IBEC’s Head of Strategy, had the opportunity to explain the Institute’s Arts and Science programme and discuss the importance of effective intermediaries and metrics for measuring the impact of projects that combine creativity and scientific innovation.
