Introduction to the vacant position:
The Smart Nano-Bio-Devices Group is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the development of self-propelled nanobots for translational approaches within biomedicine.
The contract will be within the framework of the Bladdebots Project, which aims to provide new nanotools (nanobots) to overcome the low efficiency of current bladder cancer treatments.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Synthesis, characterization, and functionalization of inorganic (e.g., mesoporous NPs) /organic enzyme-functionalized (e.g., lipid-based, hydrogels) nanocarrier that are fully biocompatible and biodegradable.
- Study of functionalization and drug loading/release capabilities of nanoparticles for the development of precision and personalized nanobots.
- Design of nanobots to be used as active smart drug delivery systems.
- Test and evaluate the therapeutic effect of such nanobots in vitro and in vivo.
- Study of the mechanism of action of drug loading nanobots in vitro.
- Guide bachelor, master, and PhD students.
- Interaction and reporting within the group and with private foundations and companies.
- Actively working in the development of new ideas that give rise to future and/or evolution of projects and generation of intellectual property.
Requirements for candidates:
Essential:
- PhD in the field of biomedicine, pharmacy, nanomedicine, biochemistry, chemistry or nanobiotechnology.
- Experience with nanoparticle synthesis to be used as nanocarriers.
- Experience in drug loading and drug delivery studies with therapeutic small molecules.
- Experience with cell cultures (cell lines and primary cells).
- Basic knowledge of fluorescence microscopy.
- Accredited A (Animal care), B (Euthanasia), C (Experimental procedure) Functions according to RD 53/2013.
- Competencies and skills: Communication, Teamwork, Proactivity, Commitment, Collegiality, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking.
- High level of English.
Advantageous:
- Advanced knowledge in fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, toxicity assays and similar. Experience in advanced drug delivery systems and personalized medicine.
