Laboratory Technician at the Molecular Bionics Research Group 

Introduction to the vacant position: 

The Molecular Bionics Group is looking for a Laboratory Technician to provide technical support to the research activities led by Amayra Hernández Vega, Ramón y Cajal researcher associated with the group. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the efficient organization and day-to-day operation of the laboratory, while supporting advanced research activities in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.  

Main tasks and responsibilities: 

  • General laboratory organization, including reagent ordering, inventory management, and proactive identification of needs and improvements in methods, tools, and purchases. 
  • Training and onboarding of new group members in laboratory organization, equipment use, and best practices. 
  • Genotyping and general oversight of mouse lines and breeding/crossing strategies for colony maintenance. 
  • Technical support to researchers in the culture and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) and primary neuronal cultures 
  • Acting as the main contact person between researchers and distributors, maintenance services, safety officers, administrative staff, and other IBEC departments. 

Requirements for candidates: 

Essential: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. 
  • FELASA Category C certification or equivalent qualification (e.g. certified animal experimentation course). 
  • Strong competencies in communication, teamwork and collaboration, commitment. 
  • High level of English (spoken and written). 

Advantageous:  

  • Previous experience as a laboratory technician supporting research groups in international laboratory environments. 
  • Experience working with mouse models. 
  • Experience in cell culture, including hPSCs and/or primary mouse neurons. 
  • Experience with molecular and cell biology techniques. 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills, particularly in multidisciplinary and multicultural research environments 
  • Felasa Category D certification. 
  • Protein purification experience.

  • Full-time 1 year contract (with possibility of extension for two more years).
