Una investigación liderada por el IBEC ha analizado la actividad antimicrobiana de histonas humanas frente a diferentes bacterias, tanto en solución como en biofilm. Los resultados son muy prometedores y abren la puerta a encontrar nuevos tratamientos más efectivos, especialmente frente a infecciones por Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Esta bacteria es la principal responsable del desarrollo de heridas crónicas e insuficiencia pulmonar en pacientes con fibrosis quística y otras enfermedades respiratorias.

El Instituto de Bioingeniería de Cataluña (IBEC) se ha unido a la firma del Acuerdo de Heidelberg junto con entidades de nueve países europeos para promover la sostenibilidad ambiental en la financiación de la investigación científica. El acuerdo discute la adopción de prácticas que aseguren una investigación medioambientalmente sostenible y cómo avanzar hacia este modelo.
IBEC’s 17th Annual Symposium focused on ‘Bioengineering for Emergent and Advanced Therapies’, one of IBEC’s key application areas. Around 300 people attended the event, including local and international researchers. It was a multidisciplinary environment in which experts from other centres and the IBEC community itself had the opportunity to present their projects and share knowledge.
