Researchers from IBEC and the Polytechnic of Milano have developed a new technic to study with accuracy and in detail how the cellular membrane responds to external electrical fields at the nanoscale. The scientific journal Nano Letters has published details of their work under the title “Quantitative Nanoscale Dielectric Microscopy of Single-Layer Supported Biomembranes”.
The work opens new possibilities for studying bioelectric phenomena and the dielectric properties of biological membranes at the nanoscale.
