Introduction to the vacant position:
The Nanobioengineering Research Group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is looking for a Senior Researcher to develop innovative research activities in the field of cancer tissue engineering focused on bioengineered pediatric oncology models and translational therapies.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Contribute to the research team by generating high-quality research ideas, designing and conducting research projects, and developing new interdisciplinary lines in cancer tissue engineering
- Publish research articles in leading international journals.
- Present research at international scientific conferences and other forums.
- Supervise undergraduate, Master’s, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in agreement with the group leader.
- Act as responsible and contact person when the Group Leader is absent.
- Write and support proposals for national, European and international funding, including cooperative projects and consortia.
- Search and apply for individual fellowships, awards, and grants.
- Lead research activities in pediatric cancer bioengineering, focused on developing bioengineered models combined with novel therapeutic approaches, ensuring translational impact through close partnerships with hospitals.
- Organize project meetings, conferences and symposia
- Provide constructive and innovative ideas, and define future research strategies of the group.
- Provide scientific support to translational projects and innovation activities, including the generation of intellectual property.
- Act as contact person with collaborators and contribute international expertise to enrich the group’s collaborative network.
Requirements for candidates:
Essential:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Oncology, Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials, or related fields.
- At least 12 years since PhD defense. This date will be understood as the date of doctoral thesis defense. For those who hold more than one doctorate, this requirement refers to the first one obtained.
- More than 5 years of international postdoctoral research experience in world-leading centers.
- Certified R3 (Established Researcher) level, accredited by the Spanish State Research Agency (Agencia Estatal de Investigación) within the European Research Career Framework.
a) Scientific and technical contributions: Demonstrated quality of production and scientific-technological activity:
- Strong record of publications in first-quartile journals, including as first, corresponding, and last author in the field of cancer tissue engineering
- Contributions to books/book chapters, conferences, patents, and technology transfer.
b) Other curricular merits:
- Supervision of postdocs, PhD, MSc, and BSc theses.
- International collaborations and research networks.
- Proven ability to obtain competitive funding as Principal Investigator, with a strong track record in national and international projects.
- Scientific dissemination, outreach activities, and collaborations with patient associations.
- Obtaining awards, mentions and distinctions.
- Invited keynote speaker and solid record of oral presentations at national and international conferences.
- Experience in organizing scientific conferences or symposia, including roles as chair or session organizer.
- Member of scientific committees
- Reviewer and/ or editor for international journals in bioengineering/oncology.
- Multidisciplinary expertise combining cancer bioengineering, tissue engineering, biomaterials, microfluidics, nanomedicine, and translational oncology.
- Experience in cell culture of cancer cell lines and primary cultures, viral work and study of cell toxicity and similar by confocal, FACS, and molecular biology techniques as qRT-PCR, western blot, etc.
- Competencies: communication, teamwork and collaboration, commitment, proactivity, integrity, critical and analytical thinking.
- High level of English.

- Full-time, Permanent position. Specific Rate of Replacement for the stabilization of temporary work, requested by the Administration of the Generalitat based on the Law 2/2023, of march 16, and the Law 31/2022, of December 23, on general State budgets for the year 2023, both currently extended.
