On 25 July, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) signed a framework collaboration agreement to promote joint research, innovation and technology transfer activities in the field of bioengineering for health applications.

This agreement consolidates a strategic alliance between the two institutions, facilitating the development of new scientific and technological projects aimed at improving healthcare and patients’ quality of life. The collaboration will also enable the identification of priority challenges in the healthcare system, the sharing of knowledge, and the promotion of the exchange of research and clinical staff.

The ICS is Catalonia’s main healthcare provider and is committed to a people-centred model of care that integrates primary and hospital care. It also has a strong background in health research through various projects focusing on chronic diseases, mental health, personalised medicine, public health and infectious diseases, to name a few. Its collaboration network includes research centres, universities and organisations, both nationally and internationally.

IBEC, for its part, reinforces its commitment to clinical collaborations, which are essential for connecting bioengineering research with the real needs of the healthcare environment. The institute generates excellent knowledge and transfers it in the form of innovative solutions that positively impact society.

This agreement marks a new milestone in IBEC’s strategy to strengthen its connection with the Catalan healthcare system. It is in line with recent collaborations with institutions such as the Hospital del Mar, the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), and the Blood and Tissue Bank of Catalonia.
